Liam's POV

"Could you slow down?" Micah huffed as I continued down the concrete path toward the stables.

"Now come on, you were so excited to see Starlight." I slowed at his request.

"And I still am but you don't have to rush." He smiled. Sighing, we started to walk in silence again.

"How have you been lately?" I remembered the dark circles under his beautiful hazel eyes.

"My dad wants me to find a wife and get ready to take the throne." I looked at him, sadly there was nothing I could do to help him.

"Have you met someone yet?" He scoffed as if no one would ever look his way.

"I thought I did but she left after I gave her some gold to go shopping. Took it and ran." He sighed. "It doesn't matter, I guess I could rule alone, that's no problem." I heard the sadness in his voice. It sounded like he was about to cry.

"Hey, hey," he turned away from me. Pain struck my heart; my best friend was crying at the thought of being alone. "Please don't cry, you have me."

"NO," his shouting shocked me. "I don't have you. I can't have you." His voice got quieter with each word. I realized the meaning behind his words, but I couldn't allow myself to be happy because we could never be together.

"Micah," I wiped his tears and waited for him to look up at me. "I will always be here for you. Through everything, understand?" I placed my hand under his chin and lifted his face to mine.

"That's the problem." He gently pushed away from me, and continued walking and I did the same, I couldn't push him.

I was looking at the ground as we walked and didn't notice that he had stopped. I ran into him. "Mic-" I stopped speaking when I looked up.

Two people, a maid and guard, were making out in the stable. Seriously in a place where many people came. I started to go in and tell them to get back to where they needed to be. "Leave them be." Micah whispered, turning on his heel, he broke off from the concrete path down a dirt one. The grass had stopped growing because of how many times people traveled down it. I followed knowing where we were heading, knowing Micah did too.

When we reached the river, we stopped and observed it at a safe distance. It looked peaceful on the surface, but it was raging below. "Mic-" When his lips met mine, I almost immediately gave in to him. Our lips moved in rhythm. His fingers tugged at my hair, and I groaned into his mouth. We paused to catch our breath, but I knew if we waited too long, he'd start thinking about what a bad idea this was.

I laid him on the ground gently. "Li-" I kissed him again slowly at first then got faster as he started to arch into my body. I felt his hands run down my chest.

"I want you." I breathed when we broke away. I probably would have kept going if I hadn't caressed his cheek, it was wet. I regretted not stopping when I should have.

"I-I'm so-sorry," his words broke as his crying got louder. "I-I sho-should hav-e stop-'' I cut him off with my hand.

"Don't apologize for kissing me, you'll make me think I'm a bad kisser." He laughed sadly. I rolled off of him and we both sat up, he wiped at his tears.

When he calmed down, he spoke, "You're the only one who can do that you know."

"What, kiss you? Because I'm sure many more-," Cutting me off he spoke again.

"No, you idiot, you are the only one who can help me stop crying." I smiled.

"It's no problem. You can just look at my beautiful face and it helps." We laughed; his laugh always brightened up any room. I pulled him into a side hug, and he leaned on my shoulder, my arm stayed wrapped around him.
