I didn't tell my dad or Cal about that first night. I woke up the next morning and finished unpacking my boxes. A sudden gust of wind blew some random papers off of the small desk near the window. I glanced over and saw that the window was open a little. Damn it Jeff. I walk over and close it before going downstairs for breakfast. Cal wasn't up yet but my dad was at the table with the newspaper, already.
"Hey dad." He looked up.
"Oh hello, Jenny." He said. "I have a question for you." I froze as I put a piece of bread in the toaster.
"Yes?" I asked cautiously.
"Did you hear...a voice last night? I don't mean to scare you but I woke up around midnight to the sound of someone talking." I hesitated.
"No. No I didn't." My dad nods in understanding and turns back to his newspaper. After I eat, I tell my dad that I'm going to walk around the neighborhood. He nods, not looking up and I slip my phone into my sweatshirt pouch and head out. It doesn't take long for the unsettling feeling to set in. Jeff was there and I knew it. I took a sharp turn into the woods and leaned against a tree farther down the path.
"Come on, Jeff." I said. "I know you're here." After a moment, Jeff stepped out of the shadows, the carved smile just as I had remembered.
"You can sense me already? Good job, my dear."
"I'm not your anything. And would you care to explain why you were in my house last night? And why you're following me?" There was a pause as he smiled at me.
"I told you. I have my reasons."
"Not good enough. And you still don't scare me." I said, hearing my own voice waver a bit.
"No? What a shame. It's more fun when you're scared. Maybe I won't kill you."
"That would be nice." Jeff smirked at my comment and backed away, out of the light. I stepped forward. "Hey wait! I'm not-"
"Who are you talking to?" I turned around and saw a girl standing there. She had short, auburn hair that shined in the light and bright green eyes.
"Oh, I, uh..." I stuttered "Myself." The girl smiled. I could tell it was fake.
"I'm Tess." She said.
"Jenny. Its nice to meet you."
"Yeah, you too. There's not many girls our age around here. Just you, me, and Lucy." Tess said. She then grabbed my arm. "Come on. I'll introduce you to Lucy." I hesitate but follow Tess to a larger house not far down the street. I didn't look behind me but I know Jeff was following closely behind.
