The hallways are always packed with children at this time of hour.

I squeeze over to my locker and take out my notebook and my history textbook.

I think I have some free time before class, so I go to the library and take out a book.

"Monsters And Dens In Which They Hide; The Document Of Creatures In The Night"

This seems interesting..

I go to a table and sit down.

"Hey Esther!"

It's..  Oliver.

"Ey dude."

"What's that book your readi--"

Without thinking I snatch the book away from him.

"Wha--"

...

"You.. you okay, bro?"

"I'll talk to you about it in class."

"But the bell didn't ring yet--"

"I'll talk to you about it in class."

"Okay.."

I walk out of the door and go to my classroom.

I'm sitting by a window, doodling in my notebook while our history teacher lectures on about the British and Japanese war.

I suddenly remembered that I said to "talk about it in class" to Oliver.

Oliver's sitting two rows in front of me, with Scott in the middle, and Norman sitting beside me.

I tear a page from my notebook and write down:

"(Pass this to Ollie)

Hey Oliver, sorry for lashing out at you in the library. I just.. I don't know what came over me, but it's gone now.

I just wanted to talk to you about something? It's important."

I fold the note into an envelope and ask Scott to pass it to him.

I'm almost about to fall asleep when something falls on my head.

The note.

I take the note and unfold it.

"Hey, it's OK. You probably just had another one of those outbursts. What is it? Tell me all the dirt!!"

I write down:

"I've been having encounters with some creepy thing lately. It looks like a tall man, like 6'8 or some shit but it's drenched in black. And I've been having dreams about it.

I first seen it when I was washing dishes on Saturday. Then, that night, I got a nightmare that it was going to murder me. I also had another nightmare last night that it was with my mom. I don't have any context and I'm trying to figure this out.

Come over to my house, I'll tell Dad we're having a study night. Please, I can't be alone.."

I touch Scott on the shoulder and hand him the note.

"Oh fuck, that sounds really scary. Don't worry though, I'll come tonight. And I won't give it to my older brother, or he'll share it with his friend, Eddie. Last time I did that, it wasn't good for us.. Anyway, I hope you won't have those nightmares anymore, they hurt like a bitch."

"Thanks a million. It's really nice to have a friend like you."
