I put my head in my hands as I sat on my bed. This person— The Overlooker— was inside my head. Even when he didn't respond, he was always listening. He was listening right now.

Rilo?

Yes, Lillia?

I started when he called me by my first name, but then shook my head and responded. Why? Why are you in my head? How are you so powerful? How did you become this?

The wind blows, the clouds rain, the lightning strikes, and I am the Overlooker.

⚔⚔⚔

I walked down the hallway, searching for something, anything, to distract me. From what was in my head, and what was out. The Ceremony of Thanks was happening in two hours. I was supposed to be dressing in the ceremonial dress right now and practicing my Control. The Control that I did not have, the power that was not mine. I was secret, not allowed to be known for what I was, only to be controlled by my master. I sighed as I turned back down the empty hallway to prepare.

"Oh, Lillia, you look so pretty!" Keva smiled, showing her girly side. I smiled back at her, and turned to look in the mirror. The white, flowing material of the dress rippled behind me like water as I moved, and the gems at the neckline sparkled. My green eyes were bright and wide as a woman swept my hair up in an elaborate twist. I did look beautiful.

I felt beautiful...On the outside. So many times today had I tried to tell Keva, only to be stopped by Rilo. I was a puppet, as simple as that. I was tainted on the inside, and I felt sick.

"Designer Mestika! Come!"

It was time to lie.
