Finn was always so much like his mother.

From his appearance to his personality, every single trait he had seemed to have come from his mother.

He inherited his mother's black hair, her ocean-green eyes, her laugh, and her love for the vast ocean.

As a matter of fact, Finn's mother was the one who convinced Captain Hammerhead to build the Dark Orca. She seemed to be unable to stay away from the ocean.

Finn never knew of his mother's origins, her relatives, or her family. Heck he doesn't even remember her age. He only knew that she was a marine biologist and she met Captain Hammerhead on one of her research trips to Piscat, a small village of fishers, lots of criminals, and obviously, pirates.

Like his mother, Finn loved the oceans. He loved the way the water felt on his skin, how if he laid on his back on the water's surface he could hear sounds that could never be heard out of the water, he loved that the ocean always teamed with life, how warm it felt on winter nights and how cool it felt on summer days. He loved the ocean as if it were a part of his own family.

Finn's mother was quite an intellectual as well, always thirsting for knowledge and living to learn something new. This trait seemed to have passed down to Finn, as he was also rather interested in all the knowledge his mother had in store. Finn and his mother would spend hours in her private study, reading books and researching anything they could get their hands on.

But Finn's favourite subject, obviously, was the ocean.

He nabbed every book and article that was nestled in his mother's bookshelves, sifted through every sketch and painting of the ocean and the sea life, and went as far as to reading his mother's research papers despite being unable to understand half of what those odd, complicated scientific words meant.

He was astounded by the life the ocean guarded and created, of the secrets it still held within its deepest, darkest depths, of the myths and stories the people created in its name, and of the infinite beauty it had to share with those who would welcome it. Some might say he fell in love with the ocean.

Finn's mother often told him stories of the creatures that lurched in the ocean depths, tales of brave warriors that travelled across the seas, charging through storms and monsters to reach their goals, whether that be riches, knowledge, challenges, belonging, or even just for the sake of travelling on its own.

Finn's mother would always tell these tales in the most realistic ways possible. She never left out any details, not shying away from subjects such as death or fatal injuries. But she specifically loved to describe the deep sea creatures in uncanny detail, amused by the reactions she received when she described a particularly unnerving part of her tale.

Captain Hammerhead never found this very amusing, reminding Finn that if he was to carry on the captain's legacy to become a pirate, he had to stop with all this story nonsense unless it was related to treasure and fortune. He had to, and I quote: "Stop being a wuss and start manning up, who else is going to run the family business if you become attached to all this nonsense"

But despite his father's disapproval, Finn was always attached to his mother's stories, especially the ones of Lost Lemuria, an ancient underwater city with the most powerful aquatic understanding. His favourite story was the tale of the two brothers, who were the princes of Lost Lemuria and next in line to the throne. His mother would spend her nights at Finn's bedside, recounting stories of her adventures in search of Lost Lemuria, whispering tales of wonder and beauty until the boy fell into his own world of fantasies.

But it all crumbled when his father and mother divorced.

He never saw it coming, but... honestly, he should have, what with all the fights they were getting into and completely opposite ideas they had about Finn's future, it was bound to happen at some point. They were only happy when they were in search of adventure of course, and Finn would often refer to them as two of the pirates in his mother's fairytales, a traveller in search of riches, and a traveller who travels for the sake of travel.
