'How did this happen?' Nezuko thought to herself, panting as she carried a near corpse on her back.
"Tanjiro— don't die." Nezuko gasped for air. "Don't die— I'm gonna save you. You can't die." Tears started burning her eyes as she huffed. "Your big sister is definitely going to save you!"

"Nezuko!" Their mother caught her attention. "Your face is pitch black... come here." She motioned over and nezuko stood right in front of her, then her mother knelt down to her height. "You don't have to go. It's snowing and it's dangerous, especially for a girl your age." Her mother spoke softly but with concern as she cleaned the girl's face.
Nezuko was a gentle girl. She has beautiful, long black hair with a slightly red hue at the end of it. She was average height for her age, insanely strong, and a unique, keen sense of smell. She was adored as she was the eldest daughter of the kamado family.
"I want us to have a great New Years' feast, so I'll go sell as much charcoal as I can..." nezuko smiled softly. "Even if it's just a little."
"Thank you." Her mother smiled softly.

"Nezuko!" One of her younger brothers yelled. "Are you going to town today again?"
"I wanna go too!" Her little sister beamed.
"Huhhhh?!" Another one of her brothers gasped as he passed with firewood.
"No." Their mother switched to the youngest boy and put her hand on his head. "You can't walk fast like nezuko."
"But mom!" The boy cried.
"No. She isn't taking the cart today, so she can't pull you if you get tired."
The little boy hugged nezuko's stomach, she smiled and looked up at her other brother. "Takeo... I know you can't do a lot, but cut a little bit of wood today, okay? Let Tanjiro handle the wood."
"I will, but... he's out on a walk with the baby right now..." He blushed.

Nezuko started off into the woods with a basket of charcoal attached to her back. "Hurry back, okay?" Her younger brother yelled at her.
"Be careful!" Another said.

As she walked, she ran into another one of her brothers. Tanjiro. "Nezuko!" He exclaimed.

"Tanjiro!" Nezuko smiled and stood in front of him.
Tanjiro was just a bit taller than nezuko. He has black hair with a tint of red in it, and a nasty scar landscaping the left of his forehead.
"I was putting rokuta to sleep..." he motioned back to the baby asleep on his back. "Mother said she needed help so I took over for a bit... They've been so lonely since dad died... so they've been clinging to me more than often." He shrugged, grinning at her.
"Thanks for helping mom!" Nezuko Pat the baby's head as she passed. "I hope they see you as a father figure..." she smiled sadly. "Would you help takeo cut down wood while I'm gone?"
"Of course, just let me give rokuta back to mother. Be careful big sis, we'll be waiting."

"See you later!" Nezuko waved back to him as she walked off.

Their life wasn't easy, but they're happy. But life to them is like the weather... it's always changing. It won't always be easy... and the snow won't always keep falling. When happiness ends, there's always the smell of blood in the hair, well at least for nezuko.

"Oh, Nezuko!" An old woman exclaimed at the sight of the girl. "You came down the mountain on a day like this? You work so hard! You'll catch a cold!" The woman smiled sweetly.
"Hey! Sell me some charcoal!" A man waved.
"Thanks for fixing my shoji door the other day!" Another man said. "You're an extraordinary girl!"
"Sell me some charcoal too!"
Nezuko just smiled at them as she complied, taking the money from the villagers and handing them their charcoal.

"Aaah! Nezuko!" A boy her age cried. Her head whipped in his direction in concern, he was standing next to a pissed-off-looking woman. "You're just in time!" He was bleeding from his nose and he looked terrified as he held up pieces of what she assumed was something expensive. "She says I broke a dish! Help me! Smell it!"
"Of course!" She smiled, leaned forward, and took a sniff of the glass. "Oh—" she giggled. "It was a cat who did it!"
"A cat? Oh dear..." the woman sighed.
"SEE?!" The boy screeched. "I told you it wasn't me!"
"Nezuko! Be a dear and help me carry some bundles?!" Another person tried to grab her attention.
