"Then..." Nezuko panted, "how do I finish him...?"
"You need to ask?" The man in a mask said. "Can you not think for yourself?"Nezuko stood there deep in her own thoughts. She was nervous, she couldn't think of a correct way to end the life of the demon. The man drowned in his thoughts too, until the girl exclaimed.
"Oh! I wasted too much time. The sun's rising..." then the demon was engulfed in flames, he screamed in agony as he was burning to death.Nezuko looked frantically for her brother, if this demon died in the sun, then tanjiro would as well! When she looked inside the cabin, there he was. Hiding underneath a blanket in the basket.
She shuffled over to the man and opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off. "I am Urokodaki Sakonji." He said. "I assume you are the one giyu spoke of?"
"Y- yes!" She bowed. "I am Kamado Nezuko. My brother's name is tanjiro, and..." she trailed off.
"Nezuko. What will you do when your brother decides to feast on a human?" He asked.
"I.. I don't exactly know, sir." She said, her eyes not meeting the ones of his mask.
"If your brother we're right eat someone, you would need to do two things. Kill him, and then kill yourself. That is what it means to travel with a demon." He explained."But that must never happen no matter what. And you'd best not forget. Your brother, taking the life of an innocent person... that's the one thing that must never happen. Ever! Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"Yes, sir!" Nezuko replied.
"Then, I'm going to test you... to see if you're fit to become a member of the demon slayer corps. Carry your brother on your back and follow me!" The old man demanded. The man was running down a long strip of dirt road, he was significantly ahead of nezuko. She struggled to even keep up with him. He was so quick, with so much stamina. 'He's so fast!! Just how old is he anyway? Tanjiro, I know it must be jarring, but hang on! Well... enduring is all that you've ever known. Tanjiro... All your life..."
She trails off as she remembers something from her past. "Do you need to fix your kimono again?" She had asked her brother who had just walked up to her with his kimono in his hands. "I can ask mother to buy you a new one."
"No, no!" He smiled at her. "This ones my favorite... besides, I'd rather have mother and our siblings have more to eat!"Back to the present, 'swear I'll turn you back to human! I swear I'll buy you a kimono that won't rip! Everything I couldn't do for the others...! I'll do it all for you!"
Now that they're at urokodaki's house, she is kneeling on the ground, panting like her life depended on it. "N-now... have I... passed the test?" She gasped.
He just stayed silent as he opened the door to his house. He removed his head scarf and stared blankly into the house. "Your test starts now. We're going to climb a mountain."
Nezuko gasped in horror.Nezuko laid her brother to rest inside the building, looking over him sadly. "I'll make sure to take care of your brother for you." Urokodaki told her.
"Thank you, sir," nezuko looked back at him. It's dark in the forest, and they were now both traveling through it. Animals were making sounds left and right as they passed trees and trees. Nezuko was exhausted, her legs were going to give out, and she felt dizzy. But then they stopped, and urokodaki turned back to her.
"Now, from here, go back down to the house at the foot of the mountain. This time, I'm not going to wait until daybreak."And then he disappeared. So now she was alone, in the middle of no where, on a mountain.
"This is the test? I see..." she turned around. "He must think I'll get lost in the fog. I have to just get back by daybreak, right? That should be easy..."As soon as she started running, her leg got caught on a trip wire. She stumbled a bit before anxiously looking around, and before she knew it, rocks were thrown at her face. "Rocks?!" She whined. She stumbled and fell into a hole.
Her vision was blurry now as she stared up and out of the hole. "A covered pit? The whole mountain is trapped!" She gasped, getting up and slowly climbing out of the pit. Her hand triggered yet another trip wire, jumping up, she was hit by a log tied to a rope.
"Ouch.." she got up quickly, trying to catch her breath. "I won't be able to make it back if I keep running into these traps!" She couldn't catch her breathe, she was struggling to breathe. She had now just realized that the more she tried to catch air, the harder it was. The air is extremely thin.
She started to run down the mountain again. Her mind racing, wondering what would happened if she failed the test. She doesn't want to pass out, no matter how much her body wants too. She stopped, scrunched her eyes closed, and breathed.
She had to get her breathing under control, she had to sniff out where each trap was. A wave of scents hit her, and she was now able to figure out where each trap was. And then nezuko took off again, but this time with more caution.
With each trap triggered, she was able to doge each and every log that came slinging towards her. Arrows, rocks, logs, and even wooden planks were missing her. Confidence grew within her as she was certain she would be able to make it out.And then bamboo flung out of the floor and slammed her into the ground. "I won't give up." Nezuko grit her teeth. She got up and more fell onto her, but she blocked them from hitting her head.
Struggling to make it from tree to tree, she was determined to get back. "Tanjiro!" She cried out.
As urokodaki was tucking tanjiro into the futon, he looking up at the door. Nezuko was sliding the door open, she was dirty, bloodied, and roughed up. She looked at him, gasping for air. "I... have... returned." She gasped before falling to her knees.
Just as the sun started rising, urokodaki looked down at her. "I'll acccept you as my student, Nezuko Kamado."
