Lies. Lies. Lies. That was all that followed Sparrow through work. Even though he had gone to law school and practiced intricate work in the court, sometimes the people who he had to defend had no reason to be in the right. As a lawyer, he had to do whatever it took to win, and that, unfortunately, did include lying. If he didn't win, well, he didn't get as much money first of all. Second, the guilt given to him by his losing client was something that he carried around always, like a heavy stone in his pocket. Another thing that felt almost like double the weight of his clients guilt was the knowledge of his mother's death. While his parents had left him when he was three, he still had an unnervingly soft spot for them (but really he only felt this way towards his mother). As he got older, he managed to reconnect with his mom. His mother and father were no longer together when he reunited with her. When they met again, it was obvious that his mother didn't like him nearly as much as Sparrow liked her. His mom had never wanted to tell him this, being the cowardly woman she was (which also happened to be a reason behind the abandonment of her own son), and this trait was sadly something that Sparrow took after from his mother. So, he seemed to be completely oblivious to his mother's feelings toward him even after she died. Recently, she had died and it felt like somebody had turned a light off in his mind. He quite frequently visited her grave, to the point where you'd think she had been the most important figure in his life. Sparrow's father, on the other hand, was still a man that he knew very little about. All he knew was that he had only met him once, and he wasn't nearly as good as his mother (perhaps he even resented this man). But this hate didn't come from nowhere. The way his father treated his mother made Sparrows original feelings for his father transform, very quickly, into his current feelings of hatred.
After all of this, Sparrow still has his adoptive parents in his life, yet, to him, they're merely just the people who took care of him. He's still grappling with his mother's death, trying to find the truth behind it, and his hatred towards his father all behind the backs of his adoptive parents. He wishes that he could feel more for them, but, due to the several burdens (or heavy stones in his pockets), he really just couldn't at this point. He had to tell them that he was doing fine when he really wasn't or hanging out with a friend instead actually being at his mothers grave. He couldn't bare to tell these people, people he knew so well yet so little at the same time, the truth. So, at the end of the day, half of what Sparrow is living is lies, lies, lies.
