The Outbreak

I came home late and found my daughter sleeping on the couch. I was talking on the phone with my boss and I told him we would talk in the morning. It was almost midnight when Sarah woke up.

"Long day at work, huh?" She said.

"What are you still doing up, it's late?" I said.

She argued, "But it's still today."

"Honey please not right now I do not have the energy for this." I told her she pulls out a box and says, "it's your birthday, you kept complaining about your broken watch so I figured you know," I opened it I can't believe she could afford this . I put the watch on, " honey it's great but I think it's stuck," playing a trick on her she looks at the watch," no, no, no, no, oh haha." she says, "where did you get the money for this?" I ask. She says "drugs, I sell hardcore drugs." "Good you can start helping out with the mortgage then," I say she looks at me and says, "you wish." I turn on the tv about an hour later she falls a sleep on the couch I pick her up and carry her to her room. "Good night baby girl," I say as I lay her down on her bed and put the small strand of hair in front of her face behind her ear. I walked out of the room. (Sarah) I woke up to the phone ringing next to my bed. "Hello," I said. "Sarah? Sarah I need you to get your dad on the phone." he said. "Uncle Tommy what time is it?" I asked he said, "nevermind that just get your-" We were cut off from each other. I got up out of my bed and turned the door knob of my bedroom door. I walked out I saw a dim light at the end of the hallway it was coming from my dad's room. I slowly pushed open the door I saw that the tv was on but my dad wasn't in his room. I started to watch the tv and all the sudden I heard a large explosion come from outside of the city I turned and looked out the window I saw a big explosion I was scared to death. I started to walk out the room I yelled, "Dad!" I didn't hear a response I walked down the stairs to the kitchen I saw his phone vibrate and light up on the table. It says 8 missed calls, there is also some texts from Uncle Tommy, where the hell are you?, call me, I'm on my way . I set his phone down and proceed to walk over to his office. I open the office doors he runs inside from the patio. There's blood all over him. "Did anyone come in here?" he asks sounding panicked. "No, why would anyone come in here?" I said concerned. "Just stay away from the doors honey," he says I hear a bang on the patio door dad grabs me while holding his gun. The patio sliding door glass shatters. "Stay back Jimmy I am warning you don't-." He shoots Jimmy he falls to the ground dead and lifeless. "You shot him," I said nervous and panicked. "Listen to me Sarah, there is something bad going on here, do you understand me?" (Joel) I grab Sarah, Tommy pulls up in the driveway. I hold Sarah's hand as we quickly walk out of the house. Tommy looks at me, "Jesus you have blood all over you," I say "it ain't mine lets just get out of here." We all get in the car with absolutely no idea what the hell is going on. "Most of the roads are blocked off, you should take 73," I say. We are driving down the road we hit the highway we have to go on. "Everybody and their mother must of had the same idea," Tommy says. A man in front of us gets out of his car, "hey what the fuck man!" he yells at I don't know what. All the sudden the hospital next to us there are infected that come out one gets the man. "Tommy back up we need to get out of here," I say. We drive down an area where there is a lot of stores we get blocked off there are people running from where were going. Sarah asks, "Dad what are they running from," I respond with, "I don't know baby," I tell Tommy to back up, he yells, "there behind me to." We see an opening Tommy goes for it we drive straight down the street all the sudden Sarah yells, "look out!" We get hit in the side by another car. I blacked out for a minute glass shattered everywhere I ended up in the back of the car I saw no sign of Tommy. Sarah got up and shook me by the shoulder, "I'm ok baby," I start to kick the back windshield out. I got it out and stood up outside of the car, an infected then grabbed me I was holding him back Tommy comes out of nowhere and hits him with a brick he falls to the ground. Sarah stands up and gets out of the car, "ow!" she says. "What's wrong," I ask concerningly. "My leg hurts," she says. I ask, "how bad?" she says "pretty bad," I hand my gun to Tommy and said, "keep us safe." I picked up Sarah and we started to run. We were running and people were screaming, infected were close behind us we saw a building on fire people were running out of the building in flames, "Dad those people are on fire," she said. I held her face close to my chest, "don't look Sarah." The rest of the road was blocked off by cars, "there was too many of them, through the alley!" Tommy yelled to me. He opened the alley gate door I went first an infected was on the ground eating a person he quickly ran up and tried to attack me Sarah screamed. Tommy shot him right in the head. We kept moving we got to a restaurant infected were climbing over the walls and fences running toward us. Tommy opened a door and we got inside infected were forcefully pushing on the door. "Go get to the highway, you got Sarah, I can outrun them!" We ran out the door behind us there was a man getting tackled by another infected. I ran with Sarah in my arms we hit the highway. There was a soldier in front of us he gunned down the two infected behind us. Sarah asked, "what about uncle Tommy?" I told her we are gonna get you to safety and go back for him." The soldier was getting orders from another soldier. I heard him talking to him like something was wrong, "Look buddy we have just been through hell and-," He shot at us we tumbled down the small hill I let go of Sarah he went up to me and pointed a gun at me' "please don't," I said he looked at me and he got shot in the head by Tommy. Tommy turns and looks at Sarah, he says, "oh no," I crawl my way to her Sarah had been shot in the stomach she is crying and holding both hands on the wound. I grab her hand slowly kind of pick her up. "I know it hurts baby, I know," I say and then it all goes silent. I look at her, "Sarah?" She doesn't respond she is motionless and dead. I hold her in my arms, and slowly rock back and fourth slowly then I stop. I held her and said, "don't do this to me baby, don't do this to me baby, oh god, don't do this to me," I slowly say as I cry and hold her close to my chest.
