Based off the original top gun movie in which Bradley's father passes away.
Pete and Penny have a fling and Layla is born. For the most part, Layla will stay with her mom in Texas and spends summers and vacations with her dad. Usually during these times Pete is taking care of Bradley as well. Layla grew up calling Bradley "Lee" because she could not say his full name when she was little and the nickname stuck for her.
Bradley and Layla grow up spending a month together every summer until Layla is 12 years old when Bradley and Pete have a falling out due to him messing with his navy applications
Layla moves to Tennessee when she is 16 to focus on music. After struggling to get signed to a major label the her family pulls together money to fund her first album. As a result, Layla and her band hit the road in a bus to road trip across the country to get inspired and write her album.
Later the two old friends run into each other is in San Diego while Lee starts school at top gun and Layla is regrouping with her mom after a rough year on tour. The first part of this story takes place when Layla is 21 years old and Lee is 26. The second part of this story will take place when Lee is 29 and Layla is 24. *The ages may be off compared to the movie but we're just going to ignore that.*
