Chapter 2. Dammit Bray!
'So what happened out there Dean?' I said taking a sip of my hot chocolate. After we made it back to the base I turned the kettle on and started making hot chocolate. Dean fell into the couch with a sigh, probably preparing himself to explain what had happened to the three of them.
He sighed. 'It was going so well Luce, so well. To well. Bray knew it to. It was too easy. It put him on edge. That's when Bray heard footsteps off to the right. He motioned for me to follow an-'
'Don't you dare tell me you followed him ignoring the left side leaving Val with no look out' I interrupted.
He shuffled in his seat awkwardly.
'You did, didn't you?' His head falls in shame.
'Yea, we did'. Not again. Not another stupid mistake. Insanity. We, them, all of us are insane. They continue to fight us, and nothing changes. They think fighting us will make us stop. They are wrong. Insanity. We, them, all of us. We think fighting them will make them stop. We are wrong. The Broken Demons and The Blue Knights have been fighting for just over a year.
The Broken Demons, us, are losing.
Why? We never planned things all the way to the end. Never had 'what if' or 'what then' we went in, and we went out, and they picked up on it.
We started with 10 members. There are now three. Among the 'Fallen Six' was my brother Jay Amberose and my best friend Lyla Heart. The list goes on.
David Tamarni.
Vex Heedan.
Daniel Lester.
Alice Rodaya.
Some lost in battles, others after due to injury and some even lost to traps.
People revelled in our loss, and I'm not about to give them that kind of satisfaction again.
'So they came around the other side and took Val, and let me guess, Bray ran off to rescue him with no plan, got caught, and you, being your logical self, got the hell out of there? Great now let's get them back'.
Dean looks at me in surprise. 'How did you-?'
'Piece it all together? I've known the three of you for more than a year, you come to notice patterns in the way they act, and unfortunately our enemies notice it as well. So it's time to spice things up a bit' I can't help but smile. I know it's a doom and gloom kind of situation, but I have wanted to say that forever, and I have just the plan. Dean smiles.
'So does this mean you're finally sick of taking a back seat and trying to take a peaceful result?' Dean is normally logical, calm and collected. That's really just his default and defence mood. He also has a cheeky, fun, but still logical side that really just likes to kick ass. I know for a fact he wants to teach these people not to mess with us. He has just been waiting for the order.
An order I'm about to give.
-
'Dean, start the car' I bark the order pulling the zip to my black, tight zipper up. I know, I know, cliché movie moments but, after all the movies we have seen, we couldn't resist the urge to dress up in spy outfits for our rescue mission. Not to mention Dean and his logical brain said it's actually a good idea because we are breaking in at night, wearing black will make it easier to hide in shadows. But mostly I just wanted to look cool.
'I already started the car Luce' he replies. I jump in the car and look at him.
'Don't say it' he warns me, glaring me down.
'Step'
'Don't'
'On'
'Lucy!'
'It' I finished. He cringed.
'You just couldn't help yourself could you' he asks shaking his head. He looked so disappointed in me. Shaking his head from side to side.
'Look, just because we are in a bad situation, doesn't mean I can't have fun' I crossed my arms and stared straight ahead ignoring Dean as he drove to the enemy's base. Time to kick some Blue Knight ass until they really are blue.
I watch as the distance between us and the Blue Knights building we lost the boys in. When it suddenly occurred to me.
'Hey Dean, if Bray had just called the retreat -which I might add is part our code- then Val would have left with you to the right, and they couldn't have captured you from the left, could they?' Dean's eyes widened.
'I think you're right'
'DAMMIT BRAY' I shouted. Causing Dean to swerve to the right a little because the sudden noise shocked him. He regained control and glared at me.
'Sorry Dean' I apologised, just as he took a sharp turn to the left and pulled up behind a bush.
'We walk from here' He stated. Typical Dean already in work mode. Cool, collected, and logical. When we first met I honestly thought he had a split personality disorder. We walk up to the building. I take a deep breath. Action time.
-
'Where are they?!' I demand yelling at the only conscious guy left. Normally we take a peaceful sneak in, sneak out approach but Dean and I had lost our patients at this point in time and, as I said before, insanity it using the same technique and expecting a different result and since we were expecting a different result we decided we needed a different technique. Take it by force. The particular building we are in is smaller than most of the Blue Knights buildings but all their networks are linked up so we decided to sneak into this one.
Dean was losing patients next to me as he gripped his favourite weapon. A chain. Of course he doesn't want the chain to harm him as it does his enemies so he wears gloves. I don't mean fancy white clothes I mean the kick as black kind that make you feel professional.
He suddenly pulls the chain tight with a hard tug. He keeps a perfectly straight, perfectly calm, poker face.
Using the iciest voice I've ever heard come from his voice he says 'there are hundreds of men just like you with the information we need, we don't need you, so if you don't tell me where the hell they are, I'm going to strangle you and hope the chain pinches you a few times before you pass out, or better yet, die'. Not that we had actually killed anyone before.
The guy gulped, visibly scared. However he tried to play it tough. 'Like I'd tell you, you're criminals! You will never find them, because they-' suddenly he was on the floor rolling around in pain with his hands over his "down stairs". Why? I kicked him of course. I stood there staring at him. Personally I think he is being a bit dramatic. But I am a girl so I really have no idea.
I kneel down next to him. 'Look, my friends have been kidnapped, and I'm running out of patients, tell me how to get to them befor-' I was cut off by an all too familiar voice.
'Looking for someone?' Bray asks with and all too confident smirk. Val stands there awkwardly behind Bray. I stare.
'What, how, when?' I ask completely confused. How is this possible? How is this physically possible?
Bray laughs 'It's pretty simple really, we pretend we really had to pee, until they caved in and where walking us to the bathroom, when Val kicked one of them in the face, proving he has had combat skills this whole time, and I punched the other guys with both of my hands at the same time seeing as there tied together'.
Both guys hold up their hands to show their hands tied together by rope. I laugh. 'There are two of you, you could have untied each other, you can't reach your own wrists sure, but you can reach each other' I crack up laughing again.
'Oh yea... hey why could of escaped ages ago and never risked this' Bray laughs. Dean curses under his breath and I yelled 'DAMMIT BRAY' when an unwelcomed and unwanted voice interrupted.
'To think you could of escaped twice by now, and not only do we have four more of the Broken Demons but now we know the first name of one of you. Bray is it?' He gives an un-friendly smile
'DAMMIT BRAY!' Dean and I say simultaneously.
