Beidou always knew her girlfriend was flirty. Really flirty. Which she didn't mind. She liked to joke with Ningguang about dumb immature things, and she liked being shown affection. Nothing about the sexual comments bothered her, it was just two girls in love picking fun. So when she woke up at noon to Ningguang's teasing voice, her main concern was that she was woken up at all.
"I'm going to hit you with a pillow." She murmured to the blonde girl.
"And you'll look hot doing it." Ningguang replied with a smirk.
"Let me sleep you damn bedbug." Beidou groaned.
"Darling, you know what your nicknames do to me. And it's almost one, so you're getting up. I want to take you out to lunch somewhere."
"I'm too sleepy."
Ningguang leaned over and brushed a lock of tangled dark brown hair out of her girlfriend's face. "Can I kiss you baby?" She asked, her voice suddenly soft.
"Mhm." Beidou hummed, her eyes still closed. She was expecting a little peck, so was surprised when Ningguang held it, pale hand cupping her cheek. She leaned into the kiss, her eyelids fluttering open just a little, becoming fully conscious, soaking in the warmth of her girlfriend, the feeling of security to have someone she loved so close to her. Ningguang broke away for a moment, cocking her head to the side, studying the other woman.
"Bad breath?"
Ningguang giggled. "No. I just love looking at your beautiful face." She leaned in again, kissing more passionately.
All Beidou could think was I love you
I love you as Ningguang's thumb traced her jaw.
I love you as gentle fingers tangled themselves in her messy hair.
I love you as the butterflies in her stomach fluttered like crazy.
Then a hand slipped under the waistband of her shorts, and the only thought left was- "Stop."
Ningguang pulled away immediately, and sat up in the bed so she wasn't restricting Beidou's movement. "Oh gods, I'm so sorry, I should've asked."
Beidou sat up as well, pulling one leg up to her chest. She wasn't quite sure what to say, her brain was too scattered from shock and exhaustion. She just nodded.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah." She said, a little self-conscious. "I just..." How could she explain it? How could she explain the tightening in her gut, the dread that smoked out every single butterfly? Yet the look of softness and concern in her girlfriend's eyes was grounding. This was Ningguang. She would understand. "Let's get lunch. We can talk about it over tea."
There was a coffee shop a block away from Beidou's apartment that had the best muffins in the state, so it wasn't long before the two girls were sitting at an outdoor table together sipping coffee and warm tea and eating poppy-seed muffins as gentle raindrops patted down on the wide lanai umbrella.
"I'm not sure how to explain it," Beidou began. She wasn't uncomfortable with the subject, just unsure of how to put her feelings into words. Ningguang offered her hand from across the table, which Beidou happily accepted.
"You don't have to. I respect you and I love you, and you shouldn't have to justify not wanting to have sex. Your body is yours alone."
Beidou smiled. "Thank you. That's... that's really comforting to hear." She paused a moment, then slowly continued, examining each word as she said it, shaping her sentences like ivory sculptures. "I love you Ningguang. I really, really love you. But I don't think I'm ready for that. I might never be, I don't know. I love you, and want to show you that. But I don't want to do it sexually."
Ningguang squeezed her girlfriend's hand. "I get it. Can I ask a question though?"
"Sure."
"Where is the line?"
Beidou considered a moment. "I don't mind the flirty comments, and I sure as hell don't mind the make-outs. I guess... anything under the clothes. Or over the clothes. I just-" She sighed. "I don't want to have sex, but I don't want to be touched sexually either. So like, stay away from the bikini areas I guess."
Ningguang nodded. "I'm glad you told me." She gave Beidou's hand another squeeze.
Holy shit she was in love. "Me too."
"Now that we're done being mushy, are you going to finish this?" The blond reached to snag a piece of Beidou's muffin, and was playfully swatted away.
"You really thought you would get away with that?
"Eh, worth a shot."
"Dummy." Beidou lifted her girlfriend's hand to her lips and kissed it feather-lightly. I love you was all she could think.
I love you.
