Joseph grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. He spent most of his childhood there surrounded by nothing but familiar faces and a language he could understand, one could really say this was Joseph's motherland and unfortunately this motherland became much more foreign to Joseph and his family day by day, a place that could be called home began to distort into an unsafe space where tomorrow was not guaranteed. His mothers tribe the "Igbos" were continuously targeted by the new people in office and the same could be said of his fathers tribe the "Edo's". They had to get out before the unthinkable loss of life occurred, so they took to the sky and fled to the country that welcomed them with open arms, America.
It wasn't the family's first time in the United States of America, they'd previously visited California to see friends from way back; you could say it was a vacation of the sorts. This time however was different, there was no going back to the motherland considering they got rid of everything that made Nigeria feel like home and as sad as that sounds they looked onwards because at the very end of this dark tunnel was a light that gave hope, believing that as long as they stood together they would rise above every obstacle put before them.
This was the very genesis of an unfortunate fate of two souls that became intertwined and one soul was left shattered so much so the only way for him to express his feelings was through a book. Prepare for a journey but remember with every moment of happiness be prepared for the pain that comes with that journey. This is the story of Joseph from Nigeria and I write them on his behalf.
