Chapter 4
*Niall's Point of View*
By the time Avery got to explaining what happens in the basement, I was repulsed. I put my food away in my bag, and shake my head, knowing I'm not going to be eating here ever again.
"Do you usually not eat lunch here? I mean, I can understand why." I question her softly.
I notice Avery look at the empty space again, before she looks at me and nods. "Yeah, the food here is terrible, I refuse to sit near it, much less put it in my mouth." She says in disgust. "There's a guard here that brings us food every morning, we usually get enough to last us until tomorrow morning and he can bring us more."
I nod slowly, absorbing what she said, so not everyone that works here is terrible, I think to myself. "Wait so-" I'm cut off by a large, muscular guard entering the room and walking over to us.
"Dr. Horan, You're not supposed to be eating in here, you can stay in your office." He says, his voice deep and intimidating.
I stand and walk over to him, pulling him away from the table so we can talk privately. "I like to get a feel of my patients daily routine, helps me to.. get inside their head persay. You have nothing to worry about. But if you don't mind, for the first few days I'll have to be with her at all times. Ms. Blud and I have already talked it over. You're at no risk of getting in trouble." I smile at him and he nods, walking to the table again.
"It's shower time for the men. Avery, you may do whatever Dr. Horan has for you to do, but a female nurse in be looking for you in an hour or so for your daily bath." The guard says to her and she nods, as the guard walks off with the lads that were at our table.
*Avery's Point of View*
I watch as Liam, Louis, and Harry follow the guard out, then I turn to look at Niall. "What did you say to him? He was so... calm." I question him softly, looking down at my hands then up at him.
"I just explained that I like to get to know my patients, before I let the go and only see them with me, get to see what they are like outside of a therapy room." He explains as he stands up and I nod slowly.
"Where are we going?" I ask confused, as I stand as well, and I follow him out the cafetiera door.
"I'm going to put my lunch back in my office, then I want to go back outside for a walk. Does that sound like a good plan?" He looks back at me, and I can't help the blush that creeps up on my cheeks as he looks at me.
"Yeah." I nod, looking up at him, smiling. "That would be great. Thank you." when he smiles and looks back ahead of him, I shake my head. Why are you blushing!? Stop blushing! I mentally screamed at myself, hitting myself in the forhead with my palm.
We made it to his office and I carefully looked around as he put his lunch away, looking at come pictures of his family. "You're not married. Do you have a girlfriend or anything? You only have pictures of your family." I asked him softly as he leads me from the room, and down the hall.
"No, I don't. I've never been a big fan of relationships. I've always been too busy with work to be able to keep one." He explained.
As I listened carefully, I could feel relief flooding through me when he said he didn't have a girlfriend. Why do You care so much? It's not like he'd ever want you. You're in a fucking mental institution for Christs sake! I continously remind myself, shaking my head.
As we walk down the long dark corridors, you can hear some of the other patients screaming, and yelling. Then we walk past the door to the basement and I see its open. "Niall...?" I call him back to me. " Can we... go down? Please? I know you're curious too." I beg him, holding onto his bicep, looking him in the eye.
*Niall's Point of View*
Avery was right, I was curious. I looked down at her, then reached for the door, as I check down the hall to make sure no one was watching. I gently pried the door open and it squeaked, loudly, as if it was its own alarm system.
"Avery I-I really dont know about this... It's only my first day." I start to panic, as she looks up at me, even in her disheveled state I think my heart skipped a beat.
"Please Niall...? Please?" She begged and I couldn't possibly say no. I slowly nodded my head and pulled the door open again. The door slowly swung open and reveled a dimly lit staircase, that disappeared into the darkness of the basement. You could hear the torchered screams coming from this floor, but it was dead silent in the basement. I didn't know what scared me more. "You go first." Avery said, and nearly pushed me down the stairs. "Sorry." She whispered, when I glaired back at her.
I slowly placed a foot on the first step to see if it would creek... silence. I slowly took a few more steps into the basement when I saw Avery beginning to follow me. When we reached the bottom of the stairs there were three hallways, one to the right, one stright ahead, and one to the left. I looked out in front, and glanced down the hall and continued walking forward, as Avery reattached herself to my arm. I took the lead walking down the hall directly infront of us. There were doors set about a foot into the concrete walls, with only tiny peep holes to see in and out of.
I cautiously stepped cloer to the door and looked inside, seeing a woman curled into a ball on the dark stone floor. I looked again. Blood. She was sitting in blood.
I pulled away from the door and gasped, then quickly looked back inside. The woman was gone, but her blood puddle was still there. Suddently she looked directly into the peephole and a sick smile appeared on her face. She had something in her hand. It looked like a rusty nail. I looked over her slim body, her hair wild and she was covered in dirt and blood. She had blood slowly tricking from a deep gash in her leg.
She opened her mouth to scream, but I couldnt hear a sound coming from her. Suddenly she forced the nail through her left hand and ran at the door, banging on it as I backed away.
I pulled Avery by the arm and ran out of the hall and back to the main floor. When we reached the safety of the floor I shoved the door open and immediately crashed into someone.
Ms. Blud.
