You were never one to say no to a case. No matter how draining it was, you were always up for the challenge. This case would be no different. According to your co-workers who had previously taken up this case, it was too much for anyone to bear. Even your partner, Yuma Sato thought that taking on a less intense case would be a better idea. What were they so afraid of?
Yuma sat uncomfortably across from you in your office. Her leg was bouncing and her fingernail beds were red and sore at the fault of her constant biting. "This isn't a good idea (y/n). In fact, this is probably the worse idea you have ever come up with." Yuma said unsurely.
On your desk sat an unopened file titled "Sohma Case". It felt like you were being taunted, dared to open it and reveal its secrets.

You look between the file and your partner and gave Yuma an apologetic smile, "You know me, Yuma. You know I can't give this up. If you really don't want to help me with this case, I'll understand. But I won't give up that easily."
Yuma furrowed her brows and pondered over what you said for a moment.
"Alright, You've convinced me, I'll take on the Sohma Case with you. Consider this an early birthday present." She said with a smirk before leaning over the desk to pick up the file.
"Okay," Your partner said, "Kyo Sohma was last seen March 31, 2019, at 8:00 P.M.. According to his guardian, Shigure Sohma, who he was living with before his disappearance, Kyo told him he was planning on running away that night."
Hold on, you thought, why would Kyo tell his guardian if he was planning on running away? Did he assume that Shigure wouldn't stop him?
Yuma continued reading, "Shigure explained that when he woke up the next morning Kyo was gone and his window was opened."
"Was there anyone else in the house at the time? Maybe a brother?" You questioned.
Yuma flips through the papers in the file and pulls out a paper with the name Yuki Sohma written on it.
"Yuki is Kyo's cousin, but according to him, they weren't very close. Yuki apparently saw Kyo jumping out of his bedroom window holding a backpack."
You crossed one leg over the other and frowned. What would make Kyo want to run away? According to his file he was about to graduate high school, he could have legally moved out when he turned 18.
Yuma broke your train of though by handing you a paper. "There was one more person living in Shigure's house when Kyo went missing."Yuma said, "Her name is Tohru Honda, and she was the most worked up over his disappearance. She claims that the last time she saw him was when they talked about their futures together that night."
"Why was this girl living with the Sohma's if she wasn't family?" You questioned.
Yuma's eyes scanned the paper searching for an answer.
Yuma replied, "Tohru moved in with Shigure while her grandpa was having renovations done on his house, then decided to stay even after the renovations were done."
You closed your eyes and thought for a moment.  Tohru must have been very close with Shigure, Kyo, and Yuki if she was willing to live with them. Maybe she knew more about what happened than she let on.
"Let's take a visit to Shigure's house. Maybe Tohru will tell us more about what happened since she's had time to process Kyo's disappearance." You said, snatching your car keys from your desk and walking out the door.
