It took over an hour to get to Shigure's home, mostly because the house was surrounded by forest, hidden by the tall trees that seemed to be guarding it. Another reason it took so long is because Yumi kept on getting lost, she has never been good at giving directions.
When you finally arrived at your destination, you felt uneasy. You brushed off the feeling and waved goodbye to your partner before you trudged up the steps towards the front door and knocked loudly. You heard the door unlock and swing open, and before you knew it you were face to face with a tired, elderly women.
"If you're here looking for Shigure he doesn't live here anymore. He moved out a few weeks ago." She said.
The woman infront of you looked like she wanted absolutely nothing to do with you, but you still had questions to ask. "I'm looking for Tohru Honda, not Shigure. Do you mind answering a few questions?" You asked.
The woman looked irritated, like she'd been asked this same question hundreds of times before. "I don't have much time, so make them quick." She sighed.
"I promise I won't take too much of your time." You stated, "Do you know why Shigure moved out? Did Yuki and Tohru go with him?"
The woman hesitated for a moment then offered you an answer, "Shigure was needed by his family, and yes, Yuki did go with him, but that girl didn't." The woman had a sneer on her face when she mentioned Tohru, "I heard miss Honda moved back in with her grandfather."
"Do you happen to know where Shigure and Yuki Sohma moved?" You questioned.
"I cannot tell you where they moved, that would be a breach of their privacy." The woman replied impatiently.
Why was she so willing to tell me where Tohru moved but won't tell me where Shigure and Yuki did?
"Okay, that's fine, do you happen to have the address of where Tohru is currently staying? I still have questions to ask her." You say.
The woman turns around and walks to another room that you can't see through the doorway. When she comes back she's holding a slip of paper with an address on it. "I wouldn't believe anything that girl says if I were you, she was trying to hold Yuki and Kyo back from what's best for them. But if you must question her, that is her grandfather's address." The woman said quickly.
You were about to ask her what she meant when she said Tohru was holding Yuki and Kyo back but before you knew it she had retreated back into the house and shut the door in your face.
As you were walking back down the steps you saw her in the window watching you leave, the woman was on the phone with someone and was giving you a cautious glare.
Geez, no wonder I felt so uneasy. That woman is terrifying!
After getting back into your car you handed Yumi the address you were given.
Yumi looked at you confused, "I thought Tohru lived here with Shigure? Did she move out?"
"All three of them moved out, Tohru, Shigure, and Yuki. According to the woman I spoke to, Tohru moved back in with her Grandfather and Shigure and Yuki moved in with family." You replied while buckling your seat belt, "That address is to Tohru's Grandfather's house."
Yuma looked outside at the setting sun then started the car. "Shouldn't we wait to see Tohru until tomorrow? It's going to be dark soon." She mentioned.
"Come on Yuma, I'm sure we'll have enough time. I really want to question Tohru tonight!" You pleaded.
Yuma looked at you with a smirk, "You're always so impatient (y/n)."
You punched your partner lightly in the arm and rolled your eyes.
When you arrived at Tohru's home you immediately jumped out of the car, walking to the house and ringing it's doorbell.
After a few seconds you heard someone yell on the other side of the door, "Tohru, get the door!"
You heard someone, who you assumed was Tohru, run towards the door and open it. Tohru had a sweet smile on her face and was wearing an apron.
"Sorry, I was in the middle of making dinner. Are you another detective?" She asked politely.
"Yes, I am, how did you know?" You asked.
"Just a lucky guess. Would you like to come inside?" Tohru asked while giving you a warm smile.
This girl seems so kind hearted, perhaps too kind for her own good. Who lets a complete stranger into their house?
You looked back at Yumi and gave her a look telling her you're going inside then followed Tohru through the house. She lead you into a kitchen filled with the smell of delicious food being cooked and gestured to a chair, telling you to sit.
"Im here to ask you few questions about Kyo Sohma's disappearance, is that okay with you?" You asked Tohru, who was back to cooking dinner.
"I figured that that's what you came for," She said, "And yes, that's fine."
You felt bad for dropping by while Tohru was making dinner, but it was too late to leave now.
"Alright, for starters, what was your relationship with Kyo like?" You asked.
"We were very close, he was my boyfriend." She said with a smile that seemed a little forced.
Okay, so she probably knows a lot about what happened. Kyo must've told her about his plans to run away.
"What was the last conversation you had with Kyo about?" You questioned.
Tohru hesitated for a moment before answering quietly, "We were talking about our plans for the future. I didn't think much of it then, but Kyo never ended up telling me what his plans were. He kind of just... avoided the question."
Tohru stopped cooking and turned around to look at you with glossy eyes, "I wish I would've paid more attention to him."
Poor girl, she's been through so much, yet she still tries her best to smile. I can only imagine how hard this must be for her.
You look back at her with a concerned expression and walk over to her, pulling her into a tight hug. As soon as she feels your warm embrace Tohru starts crying onto your shoulder, mumbling about how she should have been there for him and saved him. After awhile the tears stop and you pull away from the heart broken girl, holding onto her shoulders and looking her in the eyes.
"Tohru, Kyo didn't run away, did he?" You ask gravely.
All of a sudden Tohru looked scared, like she was hiding something and was terrified of letting the truth spill out.
"No," She answered in a small voice, "Kyo loved living with Shigure, he was happy."
You took your hands off her shoulders and leaned onto the counter.
"Do you know what happened to him?" You asked.
Tohru turned away from you before answering, "No, I don't. I have to finish cooking dinner, so I'm afraid you'll have to go detective."
Tohru's tone was serious, but she looked scared.
"Okay, if you have any more information you forgot to tell me let me know." You said quietly, handing her your business card.
As you were walking out the door Tohru grabbed your arm, stopping you.
"Go to the Sohma estate, that's where you'll find the answers you're looking for. Be careful though detective, don't go anywhere near the head of the family." She warned you, "The address is **** street, **** city."
You wrote the information down on your notepad and thanked Tohru for her help, You could tell she was risking a lot by telling you this.
What was she so afraid of?
As you were walking back to your car you heard her whisper softly, "Please save him."
You smiled at her before getting back into your car and driving away from her home.
"You took so long in there (y/n)!" Yuma whined.
"You're always so impatient, Yuma." You replied, smirking.
