Where the skies are blue

It was Saturday morning, the skies were grey, clearly denoting an upcoming storm. Danielle had just woken up from her sleep but she was in the zone where here eyes were still closed, but her senses were now slowly activating. She looked at the spot next to her in the comfortable bed and found the beautiful brunette sleeping naked. Her eyes scanned the brunette throughout, thanking her lucky stars that she could be here. I could never get tired of watching her sleep, she thought to herself.

"Let me know when you are done staring." Stefania said as she giggled, hey eyes still shut. "not my problem you look like an actual goddess while sleeping." the blonde said as she straddled Stefania, placing herself on top of her, both giggling at Danielle's sudden movement. as the giggles dialled down, they found themselves staring at each other deeply, madly in love. Danielle went on to place a soft kiss on Stefania's lips.

"hmm, it's stormy out there. it's a good day to stay in and watch movies, no?" the brunette asked with a lot of excitement. Danielle smiled and they got out of bed. the blonde made coffee while Stefania made them some sandwiches. "I love this weather so much." the blonde said as she extracted the espresso shots and Stefania sliced the toast. "I know." Stefania said, acknowledging her girlfriend. "NOTTING HILL." Stefania screamed suddenly, thinking of the first movie they could watch. "again?" Danielle asked while giggling. they eventually settled on starting with Notting Hill and figuring out the rest as they go.

They kept giving each other sneaky looks, playing with each other's fingers, sneaking in soft kisses throughout the movie. As the climax approached, Danielle looked at the brunette and gave her a smirk. Stefania understood. "Reminds me of your very dramatic airport proposal." Stefania said. "A. wasn't a proposal B. it wouldn't have come to that had you not been that stubborn." the blonde said with a smirk on her face again.

They playfully teased each other until Danielle's phone rang. "hey! what's up?" She asked Anna who had called. "Oh okay, yeah absolutely, ciao." she replied to Anna, looking slightly defeated.

Stefania noticed the change of expression and energy. "what's wrong?" She asked carefully, placing her hand on the blonde's thigh. "Uh, she mailed the divorce papers, they should be getting here by tomorrow." Danielle said hesitantly. "shit, I'm not sad, it's just-" Danielle added but was interrupted. "shh, even if you are sad bambina, it's valid. I wouldn't blame you." Stefania said with ease, providing Danielle a lot of comfort. "You're perfect do you know that?" Danielle said as she went on to kiss the brunette, making her smile into the kiss.

The dynamics had now changed for the better. Stefania had permanently shifted back to the states, the visa situation was complicated, but they were working on it together. She had chosen not to go back to her old job just yet, so she was looking for new modelling agencies that could be looking for potential fashion designers. Her brother had been very supportive, although he was yet to meet Danielle, he told Stefania that they had his blessings. Jaina and Carlos were also becoming much more accustomed to having Stefania around again, and they did everything to make it seem like old times, for Danielle's sake. Anna too, had become a prominent part of their circle, although it would get slightly awkward sometimes, they had respect and love for each other that was undeniable.

2 weeks later

"Babe, would you be up for Dinner at Jaina's?" Danielle asked from their room upstairs as Stefania was still down in their living room. "yeah, why not" the brunette shouted as a reply. they took about thirty minutes to get ready. Danielle wearing a green t-shirt with light jeans, keeping it simple and Stefania wearing a white tank top with white pants. they made their way to the car as Danielle drove them to her best friend's apartment.

"Hola, come in come in." Jaina said as she made way for the couple to enter. Carlos was already in there, making everyone gin and tonic, while their dog Max was running around in excitement, having people around. For some reason, there was a weird energy between Stefania and Jaina, but Danielle chose to ignore it for now.

They were having their drinks, eating the chips and guacamole Carlos had quite excitedly prepared. At some point, a decision to take a smoke break was taken, however, Stefania went inside halfway through, Danielle and Carlos was slightly engrossed in a conversation to notice that Jaina too, had now left the balcony.

"Is it all set?" Stefania asked.
"Yeah the rooftop is good. You have the ring?" Jaina asked the brunette in return. Stefania gave her a shy smile and nodded yes. Jaina took a deep breath; "I can't believe my best friend is getting married." She said with excitement.
"Okay she hasn't said yes yet. And also, Anna and her were married?" Jaina laughed at the realisation that she had completely forgotten that her best friend was married once upon a time.
They gave each other the silent nod, making each other aware of the fact that they were now ready.

"It's showtime, go do your thing." Stefania told Jaina, as if she was the one proposing.
"Hey guys." Jaina tried getting Carlos and Danielle's attention "let's go to the rooftop, i bet it's gonna be beautiful from up there, sky is quite clear." It didn't take much convincing as the two friends quickly made there way inside to go to the rooftop with the two brunettes.

The whole time in the elevator, Jaina and Stefania kept bumping into each other because they were both stress walking in that tiny space.
"Why are you two behaving like idiots?" Danielle asked while laughing slightly, finally addressing the tension she had been noticing for a while.
They didn't really reply as the elevator door opened.

As they stepped out, Jaina looked at Stefania, smiling at her. "It's now or never." She said as she opened the door to the rooftop, making Danielle and Carlos incredibly confused for a second.

But as the door opened, Danielle was met with the most beautiful setting. Candles lined up, beautiful flowers all around, fairy lights hanging from one side to another and a little bar set up with some drinks. "Wow babe, did you do all this for me?" Carlos asked looking at Jaina, making her facepalm immediately. "You shut the fuck up and stand back." Jaina told him.

However, Danielle knew it was for her, she had noticed the multiple polaroids hanging on the fairy lights, it was a bunch of pictures of her and Stefania, from all over the years that had known each other. She had tears in her eyes as she now looked at her girlfriend who had now made her way to stand in front of her.

"What's going on?" She barely whispered, unable to speak properly.
"I think you know what's going on." Stefania said as she gave her the biggest smile.
"Bambina, I love you. And I'm not here to dwell on some past but damn I wish we had not been apart for those three years; it was on me, yes. But right now, this moment, is on me as well. I want to make it ours. You signed your divorce papers like two weeks ago and that sounds very weird I don't know why I put it in my speech. Okay. Let's try again." She paused and took a deep breath.

"You're my best friend, and the love of my life. It's clear that we never know how much time we have, but I wanna spend it with you. All of it." She added and by now they were both a bubbly mess, not holding back in any tears.

"We do stupid things in life, but it would be some ultra level stupidity if I didn't ask you to marry me now. So baby, would you be in? Like are you down?" She asked suddenly getting shy as she opened the box to a very simple but elegant wedding band.

Danielle has tears in her eyes, the happy ones and she wanted to scream yes but her emotions weren't letting the words out so instead she jumped and kissed the brunette with all that it was inside of her. It was tender but so passionate at the same time.

"I'm assuming that's a yes?" Carlos whispered in Jaina's ears, earing a giggle in return.

"Yes." Danielle managed to finally speak softly, breaking the kiss in need of air. Stefania laughed with tears in her eyes as she placed the band on Dani's fingers. Jaina and Carlos cheered loudly as they ran to hug the fiancées. The next few minutes were a blur, with some alcohol being consumed and happiness being shared.

When they returned to the apartment downstairs, Stefania and Danielle finally got a moment alone as Jaina and Carlos went to the kitchen.

"I'm so happy right now." Stefania said as she placed her hands on Danielle's cheeks.
"Me too, babe. I can't wait to get home and get this top of yours off though. It would look better on the floor." Danielle said giggling as she placed a soft kiss on Stefania's lips.
