I never noticed how kind the rain can be when you're suffering from a broken heart. It covers up your tears so nicely no one would ever notice them no matter how closely they looked. Today was my 23rd birthday, and I had planned to spend it at this new nightclub with my Fiancé, Alister, and some friends of mine, we were going to make a whole night of it. I went out and got a new dress and got all done up for it. Now standing here with my makeup running down my face, I can't help but wonder when it all went wrong.

earlier that morning

"Good morning hun" I whispered to Alister lightly kissing him on his cheek, causing him to wake up slightly.

"Good morning, birthday girl" He mumbles, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me into his chest, causing me to laugh slightly as he slowly started to fall back asleep.

"Alister, we need to get up now, we have that photo shoot for the magazine in a few hours," I said slightly pulling away out of his arms. "A few more minutes wouldn't have killed anyone" he sighs as he slowly sat up in the bed.

"I know, I just figured we could maybe go out and have a nice breakfast together, it has been a while, with us both being so busy with work and planning my party tonight," I said smiling, as I kissed him softly on the lips, causing him to smile.

"Ok Amy, I guess we can do that if you want, just let me go get dressed," he said smiling, pulling me close for another kiss before getting up to head to the bathroom, leaving me alone in the bedroom.  Smiling I thought to myself, today will be the best birthday ever.

After thirty minutes, we had arrived at James', a popular restaurant that my friend Erica had just opened up downtown, there was a long line of people waiting to get in for even just a bit of food, and I felt bad about being able to just walk right in, I guess you can call it a perk of being best friends with the owner. After we got settled at our table, Alister excused himself to go to the washroom. As I waited for him to return so we could order, I noticed that a small box had fallen out of Alister's jacket, as I started to bend down in my seat to pick it up, Alister showed up out of nowhere, practically ripping it away from me. Startled I look to him for some explanation of what could possibly be wrong, to which he simply replied that it was a gift for later.

The rest of the day went by with no issues whatsoever. I ended up buying this beautiful peach pink, skin-tight dress with a nice cut up the leg and a nice pair of black lace-up heels, it was absolutely stunning with my shoulder-length chestnut hair and my emerald green eyes, I decided to do a nice soft wing and some soft pink eyeshadow with some ruby red lipstick. After spending so long getting ready I was so excited to go and have fun celebrating my birthday.

Little did I know, it was going to be one of the worst nights of my life.
