July 13th, Wednesday 10:35am - 1:05pm
My shift started 35 minutes ago. I am 35 minutes late and it's all that damn cats fault. If only it wasn't so cute and friendly.
"It was a cat, wasn't it" Angie gave me one of those looks of disappointment. I gave it a a shameful nod.
I rush to the back of the café and grab my badges and apron.
Walking back up to the counter I scan the room. The murmur of people talking is quite as most people are at walk. I see Angie working on an order, another co-worker is cooking in the kitchen. I see him leaning against the book shelf, between Horror and Mystery, just like he was yesterday. He had a blueberry muffin in one hand and some sort of murder mystery book in the other.
"Latte for Anthony" Angie calls out.
He walks up to the counter where Angie was stationed and grabs the cup with a "Thanks" and with that he walks out.
"You good Rex? you've been standing there for like 5 minutes" I break out of the trance-like moment I was having.
"Yeah, I'm good" I respond, moving to take dishes out to the tables.
For the rest of my shift I was unable to think any thought other than that man. It was strange, different. I had never felt any sort of attractive or thought this much about one person in such a positive yet confused manor. After what happened with my 'parents' I did not want any sort of romantic relationship, and that still stands. It's probably because I want to be him, even though I barely know him. This is simply gender envy. Pretty men make me want to be them, although I failed the first step of being a man at birth.
I sigh, today is going to be a long one.
