~Chapter 1~

Zion found himself getting lost in his head again. When the coffee shop wasn't circled around the block by anxious office workers trying to get their caffeine fix. Or parents with their screaming kids that yelled at him for free hot chocolates. He was staring at the red haired customer that sat in the furthest seat away. In these slow hours he always ended up sneakily staring at the customers and wondering what their lives were like.

A well dressed girl, Zion thought was a model who worked for several agencies. An old man was a war veteran. But him? He was unreadable. Zion only figured out his name when he had to yell it out so the man could come get his coffee. Diluc. His fiery red hair and standoffish attitude always made Zion gravitate towards him.

"Sir. Sir? Sir!" Snapped Zion out of his daydream. A group of teenage girls had just wanted in and all wanted some complicated adjustment to the menu. Zion sighed, tightened his apron, and started working on every drink. Hurriedly moving back and forth in the cramped workspace so he could return to the quiet peace of an almost empty coffee shop. Almost empty besides the red haired man sitting in the corner both, sipping on a sweet coffee and reading a book.

"Are you trying to kill me? I asked for an iced latte, not this shit!" The final girl huffed and threw her cup on the floor. Zion could only wince when the contents exploded all over the floor and the side of the barrier that separates the barista from the customer.

"Would you like me to remake that for you?" Was the only thing Zion could say as the group scoffed and walked outside, stiffing the bill. Zion felt his shoulders fall as he went to grab the mop and bucket from a side room. Seeing Diluc stand up from his booth, stretch his legs, and walk to the door. Giving Zion a pitying look and putting a ten dollar bill on the counter, Then walking out on the street, only to be seen the next day...
