Beomgyu's parents come to visit in the afternoon. Yeonjun wishes to say hi, but he knows Mr. and Mrs. Choi will definitely ask questions, potentially ratting him out. So he hides in the classroom, where a mousy lady named Ms. Son is holding a session of art therapy.

Yeonjun grabs some paints, sitting beside Huening Kai and adjusting his canvas while Ms. Son explains something about mixing colors. She seems to have a calming effect on all the kids, and those who are usually rowdy in the courtyard turn into quiet, aspiring artists.

"Do you have any tips on confessing, Yeonjun-hyung?" Huening Kai says, a bit shy, as his cheeks are tinged with pink.

Yeonjun notices Huening Kai's eyes darting across the room to where Soobin sits, working quietly on his painting.

"I wouldn't know...." Yeonjun squeezes a glob of blue paint on his palette. "Maybe you should ask Taehyun."

"I think I will," Huening Kai says, adding a touch of gold to his painting of a snowman. "Taehyun seems pretty wise."

After completing his painting of a fennec fox in the desert, earning an approval from Ms. Son, he hangs his painting to dry and heads out into the hall.

Mr. and Mrs. Choi are walking together towards the exit. Yeonjun quickly darts behind the nurse's desk, thankful that it's empty back there. He holds his breath as Mr. and Mrs. Choi stop walking. They pause right in front of the desk, and Yeonjun swears they'll be able to hear the bass note of his heart.

"I don't want to leave him," Mrs. Choi says, her throat stuck as she's close to tears.

"He's in good care," Mr. Choi says, and Yeonjun imagines him rubbing circles into his wife's back. "We need to trust the doctors. Beomgyu will get better. He's a fighter."

"Our Beomgyu...." Mrs. Choi sounds at a loss, as if her son's depression has crept into her as well.

"Don't worry, honey." The door opens, and their footsteps shift away.

Yeonjun catches his breath, exiting his hiding spot just as Soobin rounds the corner. Soobin yells at Yeonjun's sudden appearance, as if the latter is a ghost.

"It's just me, Soobin." Yeonjun tries for an easy smile, even though he feels wary after overhearing Beomgyu's parents—their worry, the hard choice to leave their son here and remain optimistic in a situation they thought would never happen to them.

"Have you seen Huening Kai?" Soobin asks when he settles down. "I just finished my painting, and he left earlier than me."

"Maybe in the kitchen?" Yeonjun guesses. "He told me something about chocolate pudding when we were painting."

"Oh, okay." Soobin tries to remain neutral, even as color seeps into his cheeks. "I'll go find him."

Yeonjun watches the tall boy go. It's so obvious that the two are meant for each other. Could it have been so obvious too, when people looked at him and Beomgyu? Mina called Beomgyu his boyfriend. The three boys they met at the ward teased them just minutes after getting to know them.

But how could Yeonjun have been so oblivious all this time?

No, he wasn't oblivious. He knew deep down that the feelings existed, but he was scared to bring them to light. He's known Beomgyu since they were nine years old, back when romance wasn't a concern to them. All that mattered was carving out time for each other, being best friends. It was enough.

When did it stop being enough?

Yeonjun leans against the wall. When he became a teenager, he began to realize he was attracted to Beomgyu. He accosted himself for being selfish, for wanting more than what they already had.

But now he knows that it isn't selfish at all. Because if they both feel the same way about each other, they each will give as much as they gain.

And perhaps part of it comes from Yeonjun thinking he's not enough for Beomgyu. He's an orphan without a cent to his name, and all he has are his dancing, rapping, and singing. Beomgyu comes from a loving family, so it would make sense that he'd want to date someone with a similar background.

Yeonjun shakes his head. He's been thinking too much. He needs to find Beomgyu.

I am thinking about the time Soobin said that you can't put Beomgyu and Yeonjun together because they're too loud
