Chapter 9

    "There's another route around that blockade. It's that ventilation shift next to it. I can't even try to escape, but you can fit through tiny spaces." 

    "All you have to do is climb around in the vents for a while and you'll end up right at your destination, eventually." 

    "You'll be on your own, though. All I can do is help you into the vent and meet up with you at the art station next to the main entrance of the building," 

    Aiden explains his plan as you finally decide to give yourself a little space. He takes your injured hand carefully, quickly wrapping a bandage around your palm. You frown at the thought of leaving him alone and realize that his idea is you're only shot to leave the asylum. You let out an exhausted sigh, nodding your head repeatedly in response to his suggestion. 

    You walk up to the wall nearby as your gaze locks onto the ventilation shift looming directly above you. Aiden somehow manages to pry open the metal contraption over it with a rusty pipe laying on the floor, turning to get a better look at your concerned expression. 

    You take in a deep breath to brace yourself for what you're about to do and wonder if once the two of you departed, you would never see him again. The idea of him getting hurt or worse during your time away sends the need to do something drastic throughout your veins. 

    You swiftly grab him by the collar of his hoodie as you harshly pull him down to your height. Your lips crash onto his, kissing him just in case you don't get the opportunity later. He hesitantly wraps his arms around your lower back while closing the distance between the two of you. 

    He kisses you back, your arms resting around his neck. Time seems to slow down for the moment and all you can think about is how okay you are with someone by your side. Your bodies press against each other for support, the asylum vanishing for the time being.
