"By the way" Mary Grace said to Lisa as they headed home "At lunch today Don Dave asked me if I'd ever been bowling"

"He did?" Lisa asked giving Mary Grace an envious look "Do you suppose he's going to ask you to go bowling with him?"

"Maybe" Mary Grace said

"You are so lucky" Lisa frowned and let out a big sigh.

Lisa's father was one of the wealthier men in town and Lisa always get everything she wanted. Now for the first time in her life Mary Grace had something that Lisa didn't -a boyfriend. Mary Grace was pleased with Lisa's reaction.

"I never thought you would be the first of the sixth-grade Daisies to have a real boyfriend" Lisa went on.

"I'm sure you'll be the next, Lisa" Mary Grace said generously "Didn't Jake Hamilton smiled at you you in the hall today?" Jake Hamilton was a handsome eight grader and one of the star players of the boys basketball team. In Mary Grace's opinion he isn't as cute as Don Dave but he was very popular.

Lisa nodded "He did smile at me. And he is so cute, don't you think? Andrea promised to tell him I think so" Andrea Howell was the president of The Dassies and Lisa's cousin. She was also in Jake's eight-grade class. "Your right, Mary Grace" Lisa decided "I probably will be the next one to have a boyfriend"

When Mary Grace got home a few minutes later, the first thing she did was hurry to the kitchen to call Ella Fowler, another fellow Daisy. Ella was with Lisa when Jake had smiled at her and Mary Grace wanted to know what Ella thought.

"Do you think Jake is really interested in Lisa?" She asked.

"I don't think so" Ella replied "I heard he sat next to Lucia Miraflor when the eighth grade claas took the bus to California for their field trip last Tuesday"

"That's too bad" Mary Grace stated "Lisa really likes him"

"Don't tell her I told you so" Ella stated.

"Don't worry I won't -" Mary Grace broke off. She gazed outside the window spotting Don Dave riding his bike slowly down the street in front of her house.

"Grace, are you there?" Ella asked. Mary Grace's friends often grew tired calling her by her first name so they sometimes call her Grace or MG

"Ella, you'll never guess who's riding his bike past my house this very minute!" Mary Grace exclaimed.

"Who?" Ella questioned.

"Don Dave Mirasol" MG replied excitedly "He's riding very slowly. He's looking this way. He's definitely looking at my house.

"Wow" Ella said "He must really like you"

MG couldn't decide which was more fun- being around Don Dave or talking to her friends about him.

"Hey Grace. John Carter gave me a part of his chocolate bar at lunch today" Ella stated.

"Maybe that's a sign he's interested" MG told Ella.

After a few more minutes of talking MG eventually hang up. Looking outside the window MG thought of Don Dave.
