I wasn't doing this because of what Joshua said, I wanted to get to know her as a target. If I figure out why she's been on my mind. Dionne, the name is oddly unique. Seems fitting for the peculiar situation she's put me in. Luckily before I walked into the coffee shop today I possessed a more desirable looking human. I might just have to keep this body for a little longer than I had originally planned.
My demon self is fine. Better than fine actually, I'm very handsome, but the face doesn't distract from the horns enough for a human to feel settled. The blonde man didn't scare Jacob away so it seems to be working.
There were empty seats on both sides of her (really there were empty seats all over, it was almost closing time). I pulled up a chair two seats away from her, not right next to her, for other women I'd noticed getting so close usually scares them away quickly. I just watched her from the side while holding my newspaper in front of me. She sat there, clicking away, unstoppable and oblivious.
"You're not subtle, you know."
I turned my head and shot her a surprised look which caused her to respond, "Never turn your head, you just gave yourself away. You wouldn't know I was talking to you if you didn't feel guilty about it already."
It took me a second to think of a reply, "A good analysis, but I wasn't looking at you, don't flatter yourself."
"Mhm," She muttered, "I didn't catch you looking; just like I didn't notice you moving all the way over here after sitting in the corner for hours."
I was taken aback, it's like she was the one following me instead of the other way around.
"Feels violating, doesn't it?"
She started to pack her things while I sat there, stunned.
Before leaving, she lifted her head, "By the way, you could've just said that you needed better lighting to read."
"But would you have given up?"
She paused and smiled before answering, "No."
Then she walked out, with Julian following close behind, a look of pity crossing his face. Closing the door he mouthed, Better luck next time.
Curse you, Joseph.
