Flashback to 1998
Cash was five years old at the time and her mother had to work late that night. She's a nurse and works at a local hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Carla's mom fed her dinner, bathed her, and put her in her favorite pjs, Spider-Man. She packed a bag for Carla because she was staying with her grandma for the weekend. Her mom put her coat on Carla's arms because it was freezing that night. They both got into the car and drove down the street to Grandma's. She dropped Carla off and had a small conversation with Grandma. She still remembers it.
" Mom, I am working late tonight, and I need you to watch Carla for me. The babysitter, I hired couldn't come because she was sick with the flu. I'll pick up Carla on Sunday because, I'm hanging with the girls this weekend. I'll be back to pick up Carla at 5pm om Sunday." said Mom.
"Okay, Connie. I'll watch her for you. Now you be careful out there. There's lots of crazies and weirdos out tonight." said Grandma. "I will mom. Carla, come here and give your mama a hug and a kiss goodbye." said Mom.
She hugged and kissed her mother goodbye not knowing that she'll never see her again. She walked out the door to her car. She smiled and waved at Carla from the window. She drove off and disappeared into the night. This is when Carla wakes up in a cold sweat with tears in her eyes.
Present Day
Carla gets out of bed and walks into her master bathroom and turns the water on from her sink. She splashes water in her face and stared into the mirror for a while. It's been twenty years since that night happened. Carla still continues to have nightmares of what happened. She took a shower and got dressed. Then Carla put on her jacket and grabbed her keys. Then she grabbed her files, her badge, her wallet, her gun, and her cuffs. She locked up the house and set the security alarm. She left the house and got into her car. She stopped to get coffee and a couple of doughnuts for breakfast at Dunkin Doughnuts Shop. Then she arrived to the 6th precinct and parked her car in her spot. She walked to the entrance and straight to her office. She got to her office and sat down in her chair. She ate her doughnuts and drank all of her coffee. Then she dove into her files and right into work. Suddenly she felt sleepy. It was still pretty early in the morning and Carla decided to rest her eyes. She leaned back into her chair and put her feet up on the table. Carla fell asleep and had the dream again but this time, it was a different dream.
Flashback to 1998
It's Sunday and it was after 5pm. Carla's grandmother, Charlene, called her mother but there was no answer. Charlene knew that something was wrong and told Cash to put her shoes and jacket on. Charlene grabbed Carla's overnight bag and Carla's hand. They left the house and walked into the car. Charlene put Carla into the backseat and strapped her seatbelt on her. Charlene got into the car and drove to Connie's house. When they arrived at Connie's house, they got out of the car and walked into the brownstone building. They walked down the hallway and approached the apartment. Charlene knocked on the door, but no one answered. Charlene yelled, "Connie? Connie? Connie, are you there?" No answer. That was eerie. Charlene opened the door and it was unlocked. Charlene ordered Carla to stay out in the hallway. Charlene went inside, and shouted, " Connie? Connie?" Then Carla heard a scream coming from her grandmother. She ran inside to follow the voice. It was coming from her mother's bedroom. Carla saw her mother lying on the floor in a puddle of blood. She was beaten badly. Carla screamed, "Mama! Mama!" Her grandmother picked her up and they left the apartment together. Charlene asked the neighbor to call the police. The police and ambulance came and took her mother away on a stretcher. The police began investigating the place and promised Carla and grandmother that will catch the bad guy who did this.
Present Day
Carla wakes up in a cold sweat, gasping for air. She went into the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face. She took deep breaths to compose herself. She went back into her office and went back to work. She made a vow and a promise that she will find out what happened to her mother and give her the justice and closure that she needed.
