Every year before today has been a blur for me, what happened when I was thirteen, fourteen, eighteen, and twenty two? Nowadays, I find myself waking up at 3AM just to contemplate what must have occurred during those years. Did I enjoy prom? Was I valedictorian? Did I have someone I loved? Was I always so alone?
None of these questions truly mattered, contemplating the past is only a worthless deed, it takes away time from focusing on the present. Honestly I appreciate my amnesia, the present is the only life I know. It's the only life that has ever mattered to me.
I was never one of those people who believed college was everything, do I think it's dispensable? Yes. However college is great for learning new and credible information along with giving students exquisite networking opportunities -if it's something you can afford. I acquired an associates degree from a community college in business when I was twenty three. I dilly dallied most of the beginning of my education, I would rather skip class and just work. School was so expensive, I didn't have any help from my father, as the older I got the drunker he got. I moved out of that home when I was twenty years old, no young woman should be around a man who cannot handle his own life, a man who aspires to nothingness. I struggled desperately to pay for my one room apartment and the courses I took. Working shifts at target wasn't cutting it for me, the pay rate was low, too low to be dealing with mephitic customers on a daily basis. After working at Target for three years I decided it was time for a change. I was able to save up a decent nest egg of money on the side and decided to quit my job.
One day while walking home from a long day of work and school I overheard two women speaking of this mystical area in the middle of the city. A place that is not displayed through billboards but, more so a place you find through aura. They called it "The Land of Sin". The women squealed with excitement as they continued their conversation mentioned how in this land women ruled. Women owned their bodies and sold them in order to make income to feed their closest, wallets, and for some- children. I tried to stay a decent foot or two away from the women while they carried on in conversation but I could barely contain my excitement and curiosity. This land was something that sounded so far from mundane... How are women able to walk and work on their own in this kind of field without the aid of a man? How do the women who work there function? What do they do?
This curiosity was the beginning of what sparked my dream.
I decided to go on my own investigation, I began journeying to this land of sin every weeknight. I figured, what better way can I get closer to these women than to observe them from my own point of view? On my journeys my hopes came true, I was able to catch many glimpses of them. These women wore sparkling dresses, diamonds, and miniskirts. They had louis vuitton bags and chanel wallets, they appeared to be as beautiful as models with more bodacious voluptuous bodies. These women seem to be like something out of this world. With their jewels in hand and the weightlessness of their steps, they appeared to be angels who walked the streets at night. They owned this place, and everyone knew it. Watching these women slowly became a hobby for me, I was intrigued by the way they moved and acted... They were nothing less than enchanting. I watched these women as much as I could but, one day watching them just wasn't enough anymore. If only I could become closer to them, how else would I hope to have women like this working for me in the future?
One July night I figured I should venture out for myself. I'm tired of just watching, I would love to be part of the action. To be merely involved in any way with these women would be a dream come true. I dressed myself in a black tight long tube dress with nude dainty heels, clutch in hand with what amounted to about three weeks worth of pay from my old job at target. I knew in order to be approached by at least one of these women they would either have to think I'm one of them, or a potential client. I journeyed to The Land of Sin around 8:00 that evening, as I looked around I found courage in going to a bar I knew they froliced in, this bar was big, had three shining LED light that screamed "COCKTAILS, BEER, LIQUOR", the building had red bricks in the front, and had a magnificent rustic appearance. As I entered the bar my eyes were flooded with blue neon lights, the smell of cinnamon perfumes consumed me, and the soft jazz music playing in the background put me underneath a trance. I grabbed a sole loley stool at the counter and smiled at the bartender.
"Can I get a cosmo?" I asked.
"Sure thing" He replied with a southern accent. Huh, he must not be from here.
I sipped my cosmo with leisure, I haven't had a drink for a while and would hate to go overboard. Don't get me wrong, I love a good drink- but I'm here on business. I need to discover some ladies who can help me begin my dreams, not be confused as one of these lovely ladies by eager men.
"Where are you from?" The bartender asked, interrupting my thoughts.
"Here." I reply dryly
"I've never seen you here before, you don't look like the others." He comments.
I stare at him blankly, is that supposed to be a compliment or insult?
"I'm just here to enjoy the view tonight, that's all."I state, and with that I decide to get up from the bar and venture to a seat towards the window. The view from this window was amazing, as I looked out I could see the constellations- the sky was so clear. However, if I were to state the reason for my venturing here just to be for this view, I'd be lying. I have another view in mind.
I take another look around but the women I have been searching for haven't arrived yet. I can't blame them, it's still early. To pass time I take out my phone, reviewing notes I've taken of them before.
They're well dressed
Posses contagious bubbling personalities
Surrounded by men -old wealthy men with old money, young wealthy men with new money
Own vintage and exotic cars
Retain giant white smiles
Spread laughter all around them
Mystical appeal
After looking over the notes I'd taken, I realized I may be in way over my head.
An hour passed and the pickings still looked slim in here, within this hour I was able to finish my cosmo, count the stars, and finish five games of tetris on my phone. With this I figured maybe tonight's not the night, it would be best to just pack things up and head home.
I got up from my seat and headed towards the bathroom before finally ending my night here, but then something interesting happened. As I walked into the bathroom I noticed a tall woman in the corner, she had on red bottom heels, a glimmering off- the-shoulder dress, and hair in a long braid. She was bent over the counter sniffing a substance I'd rather not describe before she noticed me.
"Hi! Sorry, did you want some?"She asked, pointing her straw towards me.
"No thanks, I've had enough alcohol for a lifetime tonight." I exaggerated.
She smiled politely and turned away from me, finishing her party favor before polishing her makeup and heading towards the door.
"Excuse me!" I muster.
She turns around and smiles at me, waiting for me to speak.
" I must say you do look gorgeous, I don't think I've seen such a beautiful woman in my entire life." I'm a little nervous saying this, but it was true- she looked out of this world.
"Thank you, that is so kind. You look pretty good too." She comments, while slowly looking at me from head to toe.
I can feel the heat of my skin creeping up my neck.
"Do you come here often?" I ask, slightly awkwardly. Of course she comes here often, she's one of the ladies who own this town.
"Yes, I love this bar. Great music, great food, great drinks... cute girls." She smiles, walking closer towards me.
I push my hair behind my ear before gathering more courage into my voice "Do you think you could show me around? It's the first time I've ever been here and I don't want to miss out on all of the fun".
She stares at me blankly, considering her options before making a decision.
"You can accompany me tonight... As long as I can accompany you to your bedroom when the night is over."She smirks, eyes beaming with excitement.
I reluctantly nod my head before verbally signing my soul away for the night.
"Deal."
