chapter one: the attack on the beckers ——————————————————
— CRYSTAL BECKER shook the JiffyPop over the stove, turning back to her cousin, Casey, whenever she'd speak.
"What movie d'ya wanna watch?" Casey asks, looking over her collection of horror movies.
"I dunno, I would say something we haven't seen before, but.."
"That's impossible, if you haven't watched any of these with me, you've watched them with Noah or Randy."
Crystal's brother Noah and their best-friend, Randy, were horror geeks, and they both worked at the same video store.
"Yeah, or Billy and Stu. I've watched a little horror with Tatum, not a bunch though." One thing about Sidney Prescott? She was not a horror fan, especially since her mother's murder.
Crystal sets the JiffyPop down on the stovetop and starts to walk towards Casey to look through the movies, but the phone rings.
Crystal huffs, picking up the phone. "Steve, this is like the bagillionth time you've called, can you let me and Casey watch a movie in peace?"
The person on the other line stays silent, almost like they didn't know what to say.
"We both agree, yeah? Don't call for another, like, two hours at the least." Crystal is about to put the phone down, but the person finally speaks up.
"What'd Steve do to you?" The person's voice is deep, raspy, and frankly doesn't even sound real.
"Who is this?" Crystal asks, glancing towards Casey who'd been turned toward the brunette.
"Who is this?" The person repeats.
"Is this Holly? Or Noah? Guys, I told you last time —"
"Guess again, sweetheart."
Crystal shakes her head, handing the phone to Casey. "Can you talk to whoever that is? I can't afford to stop being the designated JiffyPop maker of the friend group over this crap."
"Yeah, sure." Casey holds the phone up to her ear, playing with the end of her sleeves.
"Your friend get too intimidated?" The person mockingly asks Casey.
