The Escapade

Chapter 7

As Lina watched the dagger go into Mia's heart time seemed to stop. What were they willing to do to get to her? Was she that important to these monsters? Was she so important that they would kill a young girl, not even 16 years old, just to make an impact on her? Who would they kill next? Would it be Jaz or Hunter or one of the children? Who would they torture to get her to spill the information? Could she bargain or would she just have to learn to accept her fate as it was? A life doomed to watching more people she loved die in front of her one by one until there was nobody who she loved left. Then They would take to torturing her. If they cut her skin she could handle that,  but they would go further. They would emotionally manipulate her until she was just a shred of what she used to be. A crumb! A molecule, whatever it was. They were killing this girl before her eyes, they were torturing her. They would probably leave Mia's body on here for days before they carted it away so it would leave a rancid smell. A smell that would cling to Lina, to her clothes to her hair to everything on her. No matter how many times she would scrub her arms clean from it, it would come back. It would remind her that she could have saved Mia, but she chose to be noble and not betray her friends. Not give them what they want. It doesn't make sense. Lina doesn't know anything. She may be strong but the real brain of the group was Jaz. She knew nothing. Unless? No, they wouldn't know about that, that happened years ago.

Suddenly time, it springs back to life as blood pours out from Mia's chest. Mia croaked out," Lina. Help". Mia started to scream. Lina's eyes started to tear up. She didn't even know Mia that well. If they brought in anyone she knew better, she would have a full-on sobbing fit. Crying and screaming. But it would have to be internal. On the inside so that no one can see. Close your eyes. Breathe. Mia wasn't Mia. Who is Mia? Lina never knew a Mia. This was just a random stranger who had brushed shoulders with Lina. Strange that she was dead. Lina opens her eyes. The screams have stopped, and Mia was shaking silently as the blood poured out of her wound. " Heal her. We will torture her some more soon. She's like fresh meat and we're the sharks", the Captain of Guards laughs. The guards laugh as Kairi stares straight at Lina with slight confusion on her face. She is wondering how Lina is so calm. There are many things that Kairi doesn't know about Lina. That Lina likes to draw. That Lina has mastered the," Everything is fine" look for years. Ever since the breakup. Everything is fine. Mia is dragged out of the room. still shaking slightly. The Captain pulls out a metal detector. "Miss. Crawdle I am afraid that I will have to use this on you, we need to make sure that you're not holding anything on your person. Captain slides the metal rods around Lina's body, there is a slight beeping when it goes over Lina's hand. "It's just nail polish," Lina says," Metal nail polish. I stole it a few months ago. Kairi smiles," That's a lie, there's a hidden lock pick under the nail of the middle finger. The Captain smiled," We don't like liars here." He shocked Lina with the metal detector, then removed the lock-pick, with some difficulty that Lina felt great joy in. They walked out without a goodbye, the door slamming shut behind them, leaving Lina closed in a room.
