I looked away almost in panic. I'd be lying if I said I had a good explanation to that. I didn't. I took in the intensity of his gaze as I met his hazel eyes again. They were demanding answers. While at the same time, trying to find them in the light shade of blue in my irises.
"Know him?" I chuckled in jerky motions. "I don't know him. I met him twice, maybe. He's a friend of Elizabeth." Way to throw your sister under the bus, Megan. Nice.
Although technically it was the truth, I felt bad. I did know him. Better then I'd like to admit. Mostly because he wouldn't let me escape him. He seemed to follow my every move, chase me around. It was like he kept an eye out for me. Like he enjoyed it. It was psychopathic.
"He's not a good guy, Megan." He warned, his eyes darting between Rio and me. I furrowed my brow, knowing fully well he was right. Still, I wondered what could have possibly happened between the two cousins for Eddie to look that freaked out around his presence. "I'm sorry, Megan. I gotta go." I went to open my mouth, preparing to object against it. I liked his company, and I wanted him to stay with us. Perhaps he could manage to keep Rio away from me. Nevertheless, he cut me off right away. "Stay away from him. Promise me that." I wordlessly nodded as I felt his hand grip my shoulder and squeeze it.
We weren't close enough for him to kiss my cheek or even hug me. So it seemed like an appropriate gesture, without breaking any boundaries.
I watched Eddie walk out of the house, stopping at the entrance to look back at me. His eyes drifted off to the backyard, or what he could manage to see, making sure Rio didn't intent to approach me at the first sight of him leaving.
I stood there for a couple seconds, seeing as Eddie got in his truck and drove away, before I turned around. I gasped loudly when I came face to face with Rio. I peered up to meet his eyes, regretting it almost immediately as his gaze was already fixed on me, accompanied by a dominant smirk. "Oh, God! Would you quit it already?" I exclaimed.
"I'm not doing anything, mama." He said, trying to suppress his smirk, but failing miserably at last. "You and your sister's been a big headache lately, you know that?" He asked.
I licked my lips briefly before I arched an eyebrow. "I don't know about them, but normally, I'm worth every headache I give." He chuckled, delighted at the fact that he could never be the dominant one in those interactions, at least not with me. It amused him greatly.
"You're very confident, aren't you, mama?" He said, staring back at me.
"I know my worth. Tax included." I kept my lingering eyes on him for a moment before I walked past him, making my way to the kitchen. I could hear the people singing happy birthday to Kenny. I watched them through the windows. "What are you doing here, Rio? This is Kenny's birthday. You can't just show up at a kid's party."
"The door was open." I heard him turn on his heels. His brown eyes staring at me, expecting me to imitate his actions.
"I swear..." I sighted in disbelief. "You drain the nice right out of me."
"Good." I shot him a confused look.
"Speaking of confidence, yours is of a 4 year old in a Batman cape, isn't it?" Rio chuckled again, this time shorting the distance I had put between us, as he reached for something behind him. Suddenly, I felt extremely uncomfortable at the sight of his gun now resting on top of the island. "Can't believe you brought a gun to a kid's party."
"You know, Megan. Since you've been digging into my life, trying to find some dirt on me. I thought it was only appropriate that I return the favor. That's a cute kid you got there." He grinned smugly as my eyes grew wider, now reflecting panic. "Where's your baby daddy?"
My blood began to rush. I knew he could see my frantic eyes move around the kitchen. He liked it. He finally had the advantage. His hand found my chin and made me look at him in the eyes. "Prison. Triple murder." I mumbled after a second. I could only hope that'd freak him out enough to keep him away from us.
"So you do have a thing for bad guys." He looked at me, noticing how I had straighten under my thin clothes. A small attempt at regaining my composure as I came to a firm stand. "Looks like you drive men crazy like that, darling."
"I didn't do anything. He was mad jealous. Not my fault he was that insecure." I tried defending myself. I swallowed hard before I could bring myself to look at him again. "So you know about my dirty little secret. Good on you. Now, what do you want?" His eyes latched onto mine as he got closer, his hand firmly gripping the side of my waist, pulling me to him.
I smelled his fresh cologne. His tall frame against my petit body almost made my legs tremble. I had to be honest with myself. It had been a long, long time since such a masculine, handsome man had gotten this close to me. My mind went to various promiscuous places. I gasped sharply when I felt him push me against his hard figure. I was trapped between him and the cabinet behind me. "Where's my boy, Megan?" He whispered in my ear. His voice as low and rough as ever.
"Sorry if I gave you the impression that I intentionally participate in your shady business. I don't. You must be confusing me with my sister, loverboy. I have no fucking idea." His eyes trailed up and down my body, making me shiver.
"He gone?" He asked.
"Hell. Probably. My sister can be dumb, but not dumb enough to have a kid's party with some gang member tied up to a chair upstairs. I hope. But her stupidity does tend to surprise me. So I won't bet on it." I stated.
"That's on you." He huffed. I raised an eyebrow. All of the sudden, his touch wasn't as pleasant as it was only a moment ago. I moved under his tight grip, trying to create some personal space, but he wouldn't let go.
"You better have the time and the crayons to explain that to me, cause it don't make no sense." His eyes darkened and his jaw clenched the second I tried to step away from him. "I wasn't part of the deal. You negotiate with them, not me."
"You don't get it, do you? You're in, mama. I don't care if you like it or not." I could feel his breath against my cheek. My heart was beating so fast I swore he could hear it. "I want my boy by tomorrow night. Or we're gonna have a problem."
"Fine." I said bitterly. Finally, he let go of me and took a few steps back, grabbing his gun and putting it back where it originally was.
"That's the attitude. Almost makes me wanna ask where did all that motivation came from." He grinned.
"Spite." I growled. "Now, if you don't mind. I have a busy night and I'd like to enjoy whatever's left of my nephew's birthday party." He suppressed a smirk before he turned around, now heading for the front door.
"I'll see you later, mama. Don't disappoint me."
Quick question. Are you here because of GG or 9-1-1?
I will be updating this weeks. A couple more chapters to make up for the time I lost.
Team Eddie or Rio? I kinda like them both. Eddie is awful sweet makes my heart melt, but Rio's dominant nature is out of this world.
Be prepare for part 2 cause it's about to get interesting. You know what they say. Full moons make people go crazy.
