You walk into your bedroom, exhaustedly excited to experience the only thing that brought you joy anymore. Sleep. Life had seemed to loose all color that it had when you were younger, all those colorful story books turned to textbooks in the blink of an eye.
You got yourself comfortable on your mattress and closed your eyes, sleeping always took way more work for you, but the payoff was immense. After some extensive mind drifting and heavy eyelid experience, you finally drifted off to sleep.
Your dreams were strange and colorful, but in all of them you seemed to have a difficult time breathing. You would choke, cough and salivate, all of this lead to clawing of the throat until it bled. Even in the in-between dream intermissions your throat stung, both inside and out.
Soon you awoke, yet not in your bed. It was bright, you could tell without even opening your eyes as it shown through your eyelids. You could feel the floor beneath you, smooth tile. You slowly opened your eyes, cringing at the brightness on your barely awake eyes. You instantly bolt up, pulling your knees up to your chin and wrapping your arms around your legs. Your eyes dart around, squinting and the white abyss that surrounded you. Your sights eventually land on something standing to your left. It wears black dress pants, a white dress shirt and a black suit vest with combat boots and a bow tie. It holds a clipboard and is tapping it impatiently with it's pen-which is held in it's right hand. But the strange thing about it, the very thing that makes you question if it's a human is it's head. It's not a head at all, it's...it's a tooth. It's "head" tilts up-you assume to look at you- and the pen tapping stops. It tips the pen wielding hand to the right and extends it's fingers, tilts it's tooth in the same direction, and kicks it's left leg slightly forward. You assume this position to be excitement that you've finally awoken, but if it's that excited you woke up...how long had you been sleeping for?
"Ah! Finally, okay," An androgynous voice sounds from the direction of the tooth, "let's get this show on the road."
It begins to walk towards you and you shift away from it.
"Oh, there's no reason to be afraid, I couldn't hurt you if I tried." It says, stopping it's closing in on you.
You continue to stare in disbelief at the creature.
"Wh..what are you?" You say in a hoarse voice,
"Oh! Right, hello! Welcome to Limbo! I'm Seven, I'll be your afterlife guide for...uh, ever." It says, making very animated movements with its entire body.
You stare in silence for what seems like an eternity, but then in crouches down to your level and begins to speak again.
"Listen, it's okay and totally normal to be absolutely terrified, but there's nothing you can do now, it's either you cooperate with me or you get stuck here forever." Seven says in a soft voice.
"Yeah, because that's reassuring." You manage to get out, you feel nauseous and wonder if you can vomit in Limbo.
"I know this is a lot to throw at you right now, it's a lot to process, and I promise I will try to keep everything as simple as possible. I need to ask you a few questions, try to answer them as best as you can, and it's okay if you can't. It's best to get this out of the way as soon as possible." Seven explains.
You begin to shake, and nod slightly.
"Alright, do you remember your name?"
"Y...Y/N" You shakily recall,
"Y/N...that's a wonderful name dear." Seven begins to write on it's clipboard "Now, what was your gender during life?"
"I...I don't remember, I'm sorry." You reply,
"Alright, that's completely fine darling." Seven scribbles down more information.
"I'm going to ask you this, and most times recently deceased don't remember clearly, it's like a Polaroid developing, it becomes more clear as time goes on." Seven explains, "Do you recall how you died?"
"I..." The nausea gets stronger, resulting in an inability to speak.
You close your eyes, composing yourself as best you can.
"I'm dead?" You choke out.
Seven nods, in what seems to be a solemn tone.
It all becomes too much, you vomit all over the white abyss. It's black and staticky, not at all something any living thing would have inside of them. Turns out you can puke in Limbo. Who knew?
The static liquid slowly fades out of existence. Your eyes get hot and your nose aches.
"Aw, it's okay Y/N...I'm sorry you died unaware." Seven says, placing down its clipboard and pen to reach out to rub your back.
You're shaking hard and tears begin to stream down your face.
Seven places it's hand on your back and shimmies next to you, holding you in an embrace. You're too weak to resist, so you cringe slightly and give up on rebelling. In the end, you cry as it holds you, rubbing your shoulders and cooing you. Eventually your tear ducts are worn and you can cry no longer.
"Y/N...I work in the biohazard department, so something must have happened relating to dangerous chemicals." Seven softly informs you.
"I..was sleeping, everything was just fine, I was asleep and then..." You begin to say,
"Did you feel something in your dreams? Did your throat hurt? Possibly your lungs?" Seven questions.
"My, my throat" You say in a raspy voice.
You reach for your throat and feel marks, like scars and scabs.
"Seven, what happened to me!?" You didn't mean to raise your voice, but the fear took over,
"Well, there was most likely a gas leak or something in your house, things like that make it hard to breath. You seemed to have scratched at your throat subconsciously. Both the gas consumption and the loss of blood brought you here." Seven explains.
You look at Seven where it's eyes would be, and lower your head and jam it into it's chest.
"Woah, hey, it's gonna be okay, I'll be with you this whole time." Seven begins to stroke your hair soothingly.
"I just wanted to sleep for the night, not sleep forever." You say in a monotone.
"Well, I don't know about you, but when I died I didn't want to stay in a white abyss for my whole afterlife." Seven says in both a calming and cheery tone.
"You...how did you..." You raise your head to look at it, about to question how it died, but thinking better of it.
"How did I what, darling?" Seven says, cocking it's tooth to the side.
"Oh, uh, nothing." You say, looking down slightly.
"Oh, alright, what do you say we get out of here?" It chirps.
"Sh...sure?" You reply, "But how?"
"Like this" Seven says, moving it's hands from your shoulders and head to your elbows.
It stood up and supported you on your way to your feet. Your legs were shaky, and as soon as you got on your feet your knees immediately collapsed. Seven stooped down and grabbed your waste to keep you from falling. It looked you up and down and said
"You okay?"
You reply with "I...I forgot how to walk"
"Oh, yeah, the gravity's all screwy in Limbo, there are classes for walking, but I find it much easier to teach newcomers myself." Seven sounds like it should be smiling...but it can't.
"Well, for now, this should do!" Seven says, sweeping you into a bridal carry.
"Oh!" You exclaim, finally feeling something strangely good for the first time in what seems like decades.
"Seven, what about your clipboard?" You remind it,
"Ah, they'll find it, it happens all the time." Seven brushes it off.
You look back and see the paper on the clipboard was not a question filled sheet, but instead a childlike drawing of a tooth headed child and a child with a question mark for a head and white clothes with a biohazard patch on the shoulder. The two children are holding hands and a pink heart is shown between them, with an arrow pointing to it following to the word "platonically". The pen was a black pen and you have no idea how the colorful details were added but you feel a twang of happiness and a small smile forms on your face.
"Open sesame!" Seven says as it walks farther into the void and wraps it's hand around something.
A doorknob the color of the void is visible as Seven's hand grasps it. Seven twists the knob and swings a door open and a flood of color enters your eyes. It steps into the colorful out and leaves the silent white room. It's much louder in the colorful out then in the silent in.
You quickly cover your ears and tears well in your eyes. Seven looks at you in a concerned manner. It quickly sets you down-supporting you by holding you close-and begins to dig in it's right pocket. It pulls out a pair of earplugs and offers them to you. You snatch them out of it's hand and shove them in your ears. Seven's stance is that of concerned friend, slightly hunched with hands ready to catch you if you should fall. It looks in your eyes and nods in a way that means "you good?". You nod and try to take a step forward. Your knees buckle and gravity drags you. Seven stoops down once more and catches you by grabbing your upper and lower back. It straitens you up and moves it's arm behind your back, grasping your shoulder and holding you tightly. You lean on it and start walking forward a bit before realizing you don't know where your going, where you are or what's happening. You look around and see what seems to be a mall, but it looked abandoned...and had people in it? So, a populated abandoned mall.
Seven guides you to an escalator. People...or...humanoid things stare at you fearfully as you drunkenly stumble along with Seven.
"Don't worry about them, they aren't very welcoming to newcomers" Seven whispers to you.Eventually you arrive at a head shop.
"Head shop?" You ask Seven,
"Yes, head shop" Seven replies.
You step into the store, and the story begins...W/N: fun fact, while writing this it took me way longer than it should have because my cat threw up right in front of me and I had to calm myself down from a panic attack while writing about tooth people and white rooms, thus sprouting more typing mistakes than on average... :D
