"Here's your stop, bub." The elevator doors once again opened for Dawnden, introducing him to an empty, short, and narrow hall carpeted with a shade of burgundy and decorated with a gold diamond pattern. He jaunted ahead a few steps, turned left with the corridor, strolled up a set of stairs, and then turned right. The bot was faced with a long stretch of hallway split in two by five steps running along the right side. The wall accompanying the left side showed off a multitude of different framed newspapers describing Dawnden's most critical achievements.

Dawnden was confused by the inclusion of so many papers documenting him, but he was more distracted by what was in front of him. At the end of the hall was a large stone door painted a pure white, beside the door was the final newspaper that gripped Dawnden's attention. He glanced at it, then his eyes instantly escaped to anywhere else. Dawnden took note of the wonders on the other side of the corridor. Below the five steps was a grated platform housing five identical and evenly spaced machines. The large devices hissed as steam escaped out of them and through a chimney in the ceiling. A coil stretched from each machine and then slinked down a different shaft in the wall. Accompanying the machines were men - strong, burly, and oozing off sweat and an unclean odor - who constantly toiled away, turning a heavy lever protruding from the machines.

"Hey, what is all of this?" Dawnden asked as he approached one of the workers. Despite Dawnden standing behind one of them, none of the men turned around. "Seriously, what sort of machines are these?"

After a moment, the nearest man blankly stated, "The elevators."

"You guys make the elevators move?"

"Yep. You're welcome."

For the first time, the man turned his face around to look at Dawnden. The bounty hunter quickly caught how miserable and filthy the man's face was. "You guys do get adequately paid for this kind of job, right?" he interviewed with a concerned look.

The elevator worker almost seemed surprised by the question, and then he cracked a grin. "You serious? Of course not!" Nodding his head to the large door at the end of the hall, the worker explained, "That fat freak over there, he can't be bothered to give us more than scraps for food and his own urine for water. We're gonna be workin' until we croak."
