Hi, I'm Alexa Martinez. I grew up in Shorehaven, Australia. We have the best waves here, and even better surfers. I mean we have to right? All anyone in this small town talks about it surfing, day in and day out. I mean it's not like I'm any different. Since I knew how to balance on my own two feet, I've been on a surf board, but that's just how most people here live their life's. Basically anyone who wants to get out of our town with something to there name needed to do it through surfing. Which is why I felt so bad for my best friend Ari Gibson.
Ari was really talented. He was one of the best I've ever seen surf in our league. At heats he was unforgettable, always being talked about amongst the college scouts, even though we were still in high school. Though I could understand why they would think he is college level, because, boy, the way he surfs. Anyway he got into an accident about a few months back. He has been hospitalized and put on bed rest since and been SUPER MEGA distant. Marlon was there when the accident happened and told all of us he wanted space and time to himself to heal.
By "all of us" I mean me and my girls, Bodhi and Poppy. You see Bodhi and I had met through a school program to help children of divorced parents. My dad split when I was 10 and then came back about 3 years ago. My parents were never taken to court. They just both kinda moved on. Unlike my parents Bodhi's mom settled a divorce legally with Bodhi's father. Since then we were attached to the hip. We met Poppy when we tried to sign Bodhi up for surf lessons. I had learned from my mom but Bodhi needed guidance in the sport. We found a place that would take her and sure enough Poppy's mum ran it.
Marlon and Ari were sweethearts when we first met them. So little and excited to learn the Shorehaven traditional sport. We have all been through a lot together, but everyone else thinks it's so great to have the same schedule every single day. They like the comfort of knowing we're your life is going and when certain events take place. But what kind of friend would I be if I didn't make them a bit uncomfortable. You see I love that stuff. Being wild and not having a plan for the future. So you can imagine how happy I was when I saw an unfamiliar girl taking to Ari, at his first day back. To me everyone was familiar because it's a small town. So if I didn't know someone, they were new. And new is always exciting.
Soooooo..... I grabbed Bohdi and Poppy's wrist and stood in front of the blue haired girl, taking up Ari's now vacant spot.
"Hi, I'm Alexa, and I have a feeling I'm gonna like you".
