Me and the guys just got into the city through the barrier and that being said I guess I should explain the magic in this world. I know what you're thinking and no we don't have any light or dark attributes special people have or element attributes that people use. Like I said people, people can't actually use magic the way people usually do in books. Instead of having the magic just come out of their hands there are magic spirits.
And no you don't choose the spirit the spirits choose you and the more spirits you have the more it says about you. You can hide or show the spirits you have and yes we have recorded who has the most spirits. Me and the guys found out we all have the same amount of spirits we all have five. And you don't have just the normal water, fire, earth, air you can have the sub-elements too. Such as lightning, metal, mist, wood etc. But if you have an actual elemental as in water, earth, fire and air you can use the sub-elements if the spirit lets you.
Even though the spirit chooses you there are still people who enslave spirits but that is usually by the help of an evil spirit. I know it sounds Clichè but it's true there are some spirits who are dark enough to corrupt and influence humans. They usually corrupt someone with a lot of hate, anger, sadness and regret and they turn them as evil as the spirit is and spirits are the only things that can fight other spirits.
And once a spirit loses against a spirit they are enforced to do whatever the winning spirit says including being loyal to someone and doing evil deeds and they are stuck doing whatever they are told until the winning spirits sets them free or when either of them die.
Some people can have actual bonds with their spirits though you can name them and take care of them and usually if you have an actual bonds you and your spirit are stronger. My five spirits are spirits of water, wood, shadow, plant and sand I named them Mizu, Mokuzai, Kage, Kōjō and Suna
