We were playing hide-and-seek, that's how it started. Kacchan and I were hiding in the same spot under the slide. Tsubasa, a bigger kid with a military style buzz cut, was the seeker. He had found most of the class already and only had us two left to find. My eyes glanced at the rest of the class who were waiting at the swings.
"Found you Bakugo!" I heard Tsubasa shout as he peeked under the slide at us. We were tucked close together, and I had thought that he just only saw Kacchan. But I saw him, so he must have seen me, right? That's how the saying went.
I was about to get up with Kacchan when I heard Tsubasa say something strange, "So, you wanna help me find Midoriya?"
What is he talking about? I'm right here?
Kacchan looked at me, and then back at Tsubasa, "Uhm," he stalled, shifting his body to hide me behind him. "Sure... I guess,"

That was an hour ago. Now, the whole class is looking for me, they're shouting my name, and the teachers have even joined in. I giggled, almost silently, but not quite. I had to remember this hiding spot for next time we played. It was getting kind of boring though, Kacchan was sitting right in front of where I was hiding, he was looking at me with a look I couldn't place.
"I don't get how they can't find you, Izuku. I mean, you're right here!" Kacchan whisper-yelled, a smile on his face.
"Bakugo, sweetie, what are you doing at the slide? We need to find Midoriya," a teacher exclaimed, after she had noticed Kacchan and I.
"What do you mean, he's right there!" Kacchan yelled back, turning to look at the teacher while pointing at me.
The teacher seemed confused, "Katsuki, darling, Izuku isn't there. Now come along, we need to find him,"
At that point a started to speak up, "Mrs. Kyōju, it's not funny anymore,"
I saw Kacchan react to my words, but, Mrs. Kyōju didn't. She seemed like she didn't even hear me.
"Didn't you just hear him?" Kacchan asked.
Mrs. Kyōju didn't look like she knew what to say, so she grabbed Kacchan's hand, and pulled him to the other teacher, who was gathering the other students. I saw her whisper something in his ear, and he passed a concerned glance at Kacchan.
I ran out from under the slide and to the group. Both the teachers looked at me, a wave of relief passed over their faces.
"Izuku, where did you run off to?" Mrs. Kyōju asked, dropping Kacchan's hand and taking both of mine.
"I was with Kacchan under the slide!" I answered back, a smile on my face for my obvious hide-and-seek triumph.
"Izuku, sweetie, don't lie. I was just there, and I didn't see you,"
"But I was! Kacchan was with me—right Kacchan?" I glanced over at Kacchan hoping he'd say I was with him.
He crossed his arms, and looked annoyed, he was about to say something when the other kids gasped. Kacchan turned toward the gasps and so did me and Mrs. Kyōju. It was Tsubasa, huge, red wings like that of a dragon's had sprouted out of his back and he was trying his best to get a look at them.
I heard Kacchan gasp, Mrs. Kyōju let go of my hands and went to congratulate Tsubasa on such a great quirk. I could feel my face light up, and I went over to congratulate Tsubasa as well. As we all stared wide eyed at Tsubasa's quirk I thought back to my visit to the doctor the previous morning.

"Good news. Izuku is going to have a quirk," The doctor had said. Izuku's whole world had lit up at that moment. The doctor had then went on to explain the reasons he would get a quirk, but he had stopped listening, focusing solely on what amazing quirk he would get.

Izuku went to school that day happy as he could have ever been. His classmates were happy for him, and his teachers gave him soft smiles when he told them.

I woke up from the dream, it was the same one that I had been having for the past weeks. It was that weird preschool day when the whole class, besides Kacchan, were playing hide-and-seek and they couldn't find me. I rubbed my eyes, trying to get the dream out of my mind, and then stared at the mirror across from my bed. My hair was a mess.
"Izuku, baby! Come down stairs for breakfast!" I heard my mother yell.
I yawned and called back that I'd be right down. I changed into my uniform, and attempted to brush my unkempt hair. The brush got stuck halfway down, and I couldn't get it any further down before I gave up. I slipped my socks on and walked down the stairs.

Arriving in the kitchen, I slid on the hardwood floor and got a surprised reaction from my mother as she gasped, and then laughed at my speedy arrival. I returned the laugh and sat down at the table so we could both eat.
"Alright, mom, I've got to head off," I said, as I got up to put my empty plate in my seat.
I went up the stairs to brush my teeth in my bathroom, and afterwards I ran to the door, nearly missing my bag before leaving, and as I ran out so I wouldn't be late, I wished my mother a lovely day.

I walked down the street and into a shortcut to my school, I looked up to see a hero fighting some villain that had two knives sprouting from his fingers. The villain had brown hair, and I couldn't see his eyes. The hero on the other hand, I couldn't recognize at all, and he must have been new. I quickly took out my notebook, and scribbled down anything I saw from the fight. The hero didn't seem to have even used his quirk, or at least, I never saw what the quirk was.

When the fight had ended, I ran up to the hero, "Woah, you took that villain down fast. What's your quirk?"
"Super strength," he said back, as he made sure to keep the villain away from me, in an effort for him not to be able to harm me.
I thought for a second as I wrote that down in my notebook, "Say, I have a friend... and he's quirkless," I looked up at the hero.
"What about your friend?" The hero questioned warily.
"Well, he still wants to be a hero.." I paused, "can he still be one without a quirk?"
The hero cringed slightly, and told me in a calm tone, as if he were talking down to me, "No, I'm sorry, but they can't be... they could get hurt, or be in the way,"
I put my head down and looked back at my notes, "Oh, alright then."
Then the villain laughed, catching my attention. As I turned to look at him he put his two cents in, staring at me, "Someone who's quirkless can't be anything more than fodder in a world where their lives mean nothing. They are absolutely worthless."
The villain continued, "Hell, if I was quirkless I would have jumped off a building the moment I found out," laughter rang out from his mouth. It was harsh, and eventually developed into a harsh cough.
I swallowed down bile, my lips creased in a sickening way. The hero chopped at the back of the villain's head in a way that signaled a 'shut up' without it having to be said aloud.
The hero looked back at me, "Sorry about him, you know villains can be very..." he paused, and looked back at the villain, "for lack of a better term, villainous,"
He then turned back to me and smiled, "But hey, tell your friend that Cinder Block will always support them," then he left.
"'Cinder Block', yeah?" I said aloud to no one, "What a name," I turned, and went back to walking.

When I arrived a couple minutes later at the school, I headed into my homeroom class and sat in the far left corner by the window. I stared at the clouds that passed by as my fellow classmates filed in. When the bell rang I finally refocused on the class, and stared, almost unblinkingly at the teacher. The day was finally just about to begin, and it already felt like so much had happened for it to have just been around fifteen minutes since I left home.
