Episode 1: AngelsFor the longest time I've hated the way I've looked, there's nothing wrong with my face or anything. The main problem is my hair. I have black hair, black hair is common among normal people but I'm not normal people, I'm not even a person at all. There are four great races: angels, humans, archangels, and fairies. The angels are the warrior race of the four, they live in heaven above the world with all of its problems and strife. The humans live on earth, they don't have any abilities that make them unique and they worship angels like us. Fairies also live on earth but on an isolated island. Then there are the archangels, I don't know much about them, other than the fact that they betrayed us. Long ago an angel retaliated against all other angels and the god of that time, god banished him to the center of the earth to burn for eternity in purgatory. The angel adapted and his beautiful white wings turned black successfully becoming an archangel, eventually, he found others to join him and together they froze hell over making it their own. The original angel that got banished to hell eventually found a way to sneak back up into heaven, while he was in heaven he fell in love with a woman and they birthed a child. This child was the spark of the war between races. Although during this time the angels and the archangels were not the only ones fighting, the earth was becoming a bit crowded. Fairies and humans were fighting over territory and things were getting ugly. An angel came down from heaven one day and formed a deal with the humans, this deal turned the spark into an inferno and kicked off the war between races. The deal was that if the humans fight with the angels to stop the archangels then the angels would help the humans get rid of the fairies. The angel who fell in love with the archangel heard this news and told the rest of the archangels. The archangels were then banned together with the fairies and the four races went to complete war. No one ended up winning that battle but all the races decided to take steps so nothing like that would ever end up happening again. I was born an angel, for the angel race black hair is a sign of demonic energy and bad luck. As a kid, I always got teased and picked on for my black hair, and I hated it. There were very few people who accepted me, mom was my biggest supporter and she loved my black hair. She told me I looked like my father. Mom always misses Father. She says he passed away from some disease around when I was first born. "Neo get ready you're gonna be late for your first exam!" my mom was throwing every object in the house at me to get up. I completely forgot about my exam today, I threw on my clothes and sprouted my wings to go to the arena where the exam is held. When I got there I saw Kai and Cyrus, two of my childhood friends. They are the only ones my age who didn't make fun of me when we were kids. I want to become a saint, saints are the warriors of the angel race. No one would dare make fun of a saint, so if I could become one I could finally get some respect. Kai and Cyrus also wanted to become saints as well. Kai wanted to become a saint because she has a freakish love for combat and as a saint she can fight almost anyone she desires. Cyrus was shy as a kid and didn't have many friends so he wants to become a saint so that he can finally be considered "cool". The three of us just finished our training at the academy and now we are at our final exam to start training to be a saint. This is the test to show off how well we can use our crest and if we do well we will be given our very own spirit weapons, the first real step in becoming a saint. Long ago the god of the angels gave the four main families at the time a gift, over time that gift changed and evolved as more and more families were being created. The gift adapted a lot over time so many different angels will have different gifts. These gifts are called crests. Spirit weapons are the weapons that were used during the war between races and have been used for hundreds of thousands of years. The exam practitioner was some geyser who didn't even have his wings out, maybe he was too old to use them. He made us all get in line for our exam. Kai was first, the practitioner looked at her wings and her ability to fly. After that, the practitioner wanted to see her crest but she just said her last name and he nodded his head. She didn't need to demonstrate her crest because her brother is an extremely strong saint who has a similar ability to her. The practitioner grabbed some water from a bowl and put his hand in it, after that he put his hand on Kai's forehead. The practitioner made some sort of gesture to a guard nearby, and the guard went and took Kai to some room. Kai was gone for a few minutes and many people got worried, when she came back she had a silver ax in her hand. Kai held her ax above her head and everyone started cheering. I think the guard brought her to the armory where they keep the spirit weapons. Next up was Cyrus. I already know what his crest does, he has the gift of extremely heightened senses; those abilities are also why he didn't have many friends when he was younger because he'd have sensory issues. The practitioner looked at his wings and tested his crest, after that he put his hand in the water and touched Cyrus' forehead. The guard then took him to the armory, while we were waiting for him to get his weapon I felt my heartbeat extremely quickly. I was next in line and couldn't control my nervousness. After a few minutes which felt like an eternity, Cyrus came out. His weapon was a bow, he raised it and everyone cheered for him. When it was my turn the practitioner examined my wings and smiled, which he hadn't done for Kai and Cyrus so I thought my exam was going to go well. The practitioner touched my forehead and then winced in pain. "What the hell?!" he said to himself, he went over to talk to the guard without even seeing my crest. My crest is called divine protection and it's a special shield that can block or reflect any ranged attack. The guard brought me into the armory so maybe I passed. My head was spinning with anxiety. The armory was huge, I looked around for maybe a second until the guard handed me my weapon, two curved swords with a small white chain tying them together like nunchucks. The guard then quickly escorted me out, when I got back only three people cheered for me: Cyrus, Kai, and Lisa. Lisa has been my childhood crush for a very long time, she also went to the academy that we did to learn about becoming a saint. I have no idea why though since she seems so timid. Lisa is perfect with short curly brown hair and brown eyes, she was also next in line behind me. The practitioner inspected her wings, which I've always admired, how beautiful they were, the intricate detail that I've just never noticed on anyone else. The practitioner went through the whole exam but I was too busy gushing over her to pay attention so I missed what her crest was. The guard took her to the armory, when she came out she was holding some type of book, and everyone roared even louder than with Kai and Cyrus. When the exam was over I was talking to Kai and Cyrus "So Neo you wanna see the power of my new weapon? I'm dying to test my baby against someone." Kai asked me "Why not? Let's go back to my place and train, kinda excited to see what mine does too." The three of us sprouted our wings and flew to my house. On the way, there was a strange smell in the air. I didn't pay much mind to it though. When we got to my house there was a terrifying sight, the whole building had been burned down. Some of the angels had put out the fire, I ran towards the rubble and tried to filter through it. Where was mom, surely she got out right? She's not gone, right? I kept searching and couldn't find anything, I fell to the ground. I didn't wanna cry cause crying meant she was gone and she couldn't have been, there's nothing to cry about right? I turned around and saw a bunch of angels at the scene, also curious about what happened. Who would have done this? No normal person would have done this since crimes like this are forbidden by the higher-ups, so I spread my wings and flew to the temple to find more answers. "Where are you going Neo!?" Kai yelled to me before I took off. When I got to the temple the guards wouldn't even let me in, I saw a strange-looking man inside but couldn't get a better view. The guards wouldn't even hear me out about what happened or even answer my questions. I tried almost every way to get in but it didn't work. If the angels did not know anything maybe one of the other great races did, I remembered the gate could probably give me answers as well. I quickly flew to the gate, when I got there I saw Lisa sitting on a rock nearby. Was she waiting for me? "Do you think this is the right thing to do?" she asked me "I have to go through the gate Lisa, the other side could have answers. The angels' aren't telling me anything, I need to know what happened to my mom. You saw the fire right?" "Okay but there has to be something better than the gate, you do realize where this goes to right? What does earth have that heaven doesn't?" " answers, anything is better than being stuck here." "You realize they might not let us back into heaven if we go through the gate without permission right?" "Us?" Kai and Cyrus flew to the scene. "Well then we'll just have to leave before they even notice that we're gone, that fire should buy us at least a day or two." Kai told me "What? No! you guys can't come. I don't want you guys to be punished for looking for answers." "Listen to Neo, Cyrus and I both knew your mom. It'd be an honor to find her with you, even if we go down." "Thank you really, but I don't feel comfortable with you doing tha-" Before I could finish my sentence she went through the gate, Cyrus followed her. It was just Lisa and me. "Well I guess I'm going to earth." I told her. "Listen, I want to come too. As a saint I want to create justice!" I smiled and grabbed her hand "To earth then." We both went through the gate and flew down to earth.
