Chapter 1

Bai Fengjiu watches from the sidelines, worrying about her mortal husband, Song Xuanren. After her death as Xiaojiu, his wife, he didn't care to live anymore. He sat at her burial place under a great oak tree near their shared cottage, mourning her. She couldn't understand why she was given such a miserable misfortune. She felt sad for her mortal self and husband. They didn't deserve any of this. They should be able to have children and grow old together, yet God had other plans for them. More like Si Ming had those plans.

The Star-Lord Si Ming was in charge of many mortal fates, so he must have been the one to write about her misfortune. The Star-Lord knew her too well. He knew what would break her. And it did break her.

Fengjiu continued to listen to her newly widowed husband talking to her grave. He whispered nothing but sweet things.

"Xiaojiu, My love, My little fox, did you have to go? I'm missing you. "

Tears streamed down Fengjiu's face as she hid behind a tree. She couldn't handle it anymore. Her heart was aching like crazy. She had to leave. So she did. She already knew the outcome of her lover's life, so she didn't need or want to see him die.

She arrived in Qing Que, her homeland, and immediately went to the town market. It was late at night, so no shops were open nor were there any people. She found a nearby playground where she and her friends would come and play. Her favorite part of the playground was the swing that hung from a mulberry tree. Swinging back and forth on the swing, Fengjiu started rethinking many of her life choices.

Fengjiu was young when she was saved by the all-mighty Dong Hua Dijun and became his maid to repay his kindness. He doesn't know about that. He is also clueless about the fact that she was even his little pet fox for some time. She had left his palace after he was to wed the Demon Princess and had a quarrel with her pet.

Fengjiu felt lonely. Perhaps even lost. She lost her best friend about eight months ago. Her other friends were busy with clan and kingdom business. She had nothing to do. She missed her mortal husband. Now he is probably dead. She couldn't handle it anymore and slightly broke down under the tree on the swing.

She stayed like that for a while. Her hands covered her wet eyes as she sobbed quietly yet painfully. Soft footsteps were heard from behind, making her turn around immediately to check who was in her presence. Her eyes widened at the man before her.

"Xiaojiu."

The man called her name. He was extremely handsome and tall. thin, sharp eyebrows and almond eyes. His nose was very straight and sharp; it almost came to a point, along with a hard jawline. He wore a bun with braids on the side of his head and was dressed in purple-black robes. The final two details that put it all together were a clarity bell he wore around his waist and a ring in the color purple and decorated with a lightning bolt in silver. The man himself was a lightning bolt, ready to strike you at any moment.

Fengjiu stood up from the swing and then greeted the man.

"Bai Fengjiu greets Sect Leader Jiang."

Hello, readers! I deeply apologize for the short chapter. As you can see, I am going to do a crossover with a popular Chinese novel, The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/Mo Dao Zu Shi, which is honestly one of my favorites! I highly recommend you read the novel, Donghua, or watch the drama, because this will contain lots of spoilers. If not, read at your own risk.

For those who are familiar with Mdzs, I have always had a feeling that Fengjiu would be besties with Wei Wuxian and therefore close with Jiang Cheng. Maybe even Nie Huaisang and Jiang Yanli?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this short chapter, and I will see you all next time!
