< < Zhou LanLan's POV > >
[Autumn 2008]

For the longest time, Zhou LanLan had lived her life with frustration, hatred, and grudge towards her own family, and the innocent. And it all started with childhood trauma of course, without any of that extra spice we might not be the version we are right now

She was once a girl named Li NingQui- a name her father had picked for her, right on the day she was born. They didn't get to think of a name before she was even brought to this world- because she had to leave her mother's womb earlier than she should have as her mother got into a car crash accident and thankfully, the doctor managed to on saving both of the girls successfully after spending almost all day in the ER

Li ErQiang- Li NingQui's father, took care of his beloved Ma SuQin (his wife) and would do anything for her, just to make her the happiest woman on earth. He loves his daughter as well, and he would play with her even after a long tiring day at work. He thinks she helped him distress in a way, and he wouldn't miss a single precious moment of her

They were once a perfect family of three, a father, a mother, and a daughter. Specifically, she was their only daughter

One day, everything suddenly changed for the worst. The safe family ErQiang and SuQin once created had turned into something suffocating, terrifying and overall ruined. It was as if everything they went through, the time and hardship- love, didn't matter at all anymore.

They became strangers = Li ErQiang, became a stranger to his wife and daughter

The memories of that tragedy still haunts Zhou LanLan till this day as it was so damn vivid: It was a chilly Friday night, Li ErQiang was wearing one of his favorite suit, he smelt like a mix of artificial scent of flowers and alcohol, loosened tie hanging around his neck. Ma SuQin was in her pajamas, her hair tied in her usual messy mom bun and pure devastation plastered on her face,  her eyes brimming with tears. She cried a lot these days to the point that, she could fill a whole well if she didn't stop at all

"How could you do this to us?!" Li NingQui was surprised to hear her mother's sudden outburst that made her jumped from her sleep. Her small heart was throbbing so hard she started to sweat on her bed so she remove her blanket off her. She thought maybe that was her nightmare, so she tired to go back to sleep again when she heard a loud bang and glass crashing.

ErQiang had threw the glass he just drank from and threw it across the room from the kitchen, almost hitting SuQin in the process it landed at the edge of the coffee table instead

NingQui got off her bed and sneaked to the staircase and sat on there, making sure that she hid her small body behind the walls to avoid being seen by any of her parents. There was a short silence downstairs, and NingQui was listening intently just so she won't miss out on anything else, since she seems to be left behind a lot. She had thought that her parents were acting strange, but she never really questioned it since her mother assured her that everything's fine every time

But she's growing as years went by, and looking back, all those moments where her father turn his cold shoulders on them, ditching family parties, glares and sudden change of attitude just made so much sense now
