This is my first story on Wattpad.  It will probably be kind of short.  I honestly don't know how it will end yet.  I have started writing many stories but I rarely finish them.  I want to see what people think.  So please let me know.

*Introduction*

Once upon a time, in a land unlike our own, there was a place called Lochenky.  The people of Lochenky were very much like you and I, only there was one major difference between their world and ours.  The people of Lochenky had a significantly different way of falling in love.

You see, all the girls of Lochenky wore gold lockets around there necks.  They weren’t just any lockets.  These lockets were magical.  They would appear on a young girl’s neck when they turned sixteen years old.  The lockets held a secret about the girl’s future inside.  It had a picture of herself as a young woman with her future husband.  But the lockets were sealed shut and could only be opened by the key given to their future husband on his sixteenth birthday.  The people did not know who their soul mates were until they tested their keys and lockets.

Now some might say that this system of finding one’s soul mate was unfair.  That the people didn’t have their free-will to fall in love.  But that is not true.  This type of love was the most special because it was destined to be.  It was the truest love there could be.   Once the key unlocked the locket, the couple knew for sure that the other was in fact their soul mate.  They were made for each other and they would never love another person like they loved their soul mate.

Each person from Lochenky dealt with this search for love differently.  Some guys would go around sticking their key into every locket they could, searching for their girl.  Yet some boys did their best to avoid ever testing their keys in any lockets.  They might have been afraid of commitment, or just wanted to remain single.  Some girls would try to open their locket with any willing boy they could find.  And some girls waited until they knew a boy well before trying the locket and key together.  Still, a few would wait patiently to meet the man or woman who they were destined to love forever.  And once a Lochenkinian found that love, it was the most magical thing in the universe.

 *Chapter 1*

There was one Lochenkinian girl who was not like the rest.  Catalina had known she was different for a long time.  She didn’t look forward to her sixteenth birthday like most girls did.  But she didn’t dread it either.  She just wished things were different.  She felt that the lockets were so much pressure.  Like the whole reason of one’s existence was to find their love and then they were complete.  She felt like she was complete in and of herself.  She was her own person.  Catalina had many friends and she was happy with her life.  She wasn’t sure how she felt about her impending birthday.

But when Cat did finally turn sixteen, she felt pretty much the same.  She still was content with her life.  However, even though she felt the same, others began treating her differently.  Boys started looking at her differently, like she was suddenly an option.  Some boys tried almost immediately to put their key in her new locket.  She didn’t let them.

Catalina’s parents began having other families over for dinner, families with sons.  Cat’s friends seemed to change too.  They were all going through the changes as well, and they each reacted differently.  A couple of her friends saw her as competition and stopped hanging out with her.  Some other friends of hers left to travel the land in search of their love.  Her only friend that didn’t change was her best friend, William.  Will continued to hang out with her, but he never tried to unlock her locket.
