Daniels POV

My week drags as I delve into endless paperwork, meetings that aren't so enjoyable and take away food of the evenings when I have perfectly good food at home to eat.

I'm getting lazy in my old age, and trust me when I say I've thought at least a hundred times of driving home to mommy to get some good home-cooked food in my belly.

I'm not joking when I say cooking for one is effort.

Sometimes I wonder if having a housemate might make me more proactive in trying to stay healthy, but then again, maybe they would just be a person to sit in amicable silence with in front of the tv whilst still eating the takeaway food.

That's why I'm working out right now at five forty am before I start my day, my Friday... you know, the day I get to be Ella's date for the night.

I'll admit that I hated that Vi forced me into being babysitter of the year again. But now, knowing I get to sit with Ella all night, warding off the unwanted male admirers, you can say I'm pretty happy.

Yeah, yeah, I know. A complete one-eighty compared to Tuesday morning when Vi turn't up at my work - I quit my piss arse attempt at 'being healthily' washing and dressing before walking back down the road towards my office building - Though Vi's turn't up at my work every day since then.

I don't know what it is with her, but she just doesn't seem to be able to break that routine.

Every morning after working all night, she stops by to see me. We eat breakfast, or she demands something of me, and then she's off on her merry way home to her 'boys', as she puts it, before spending the afternoon with her kids. Then she starts it all over again by going to work only to return to me the following day.

Yeah, our friendship is a good one. The only one, if I'm honest, but shit, she's cramping my style, especially when she found me daydreaming about tonight.

"Mr Henderson, Violet has just walked through the front entrance," Lexie tells me through the interlinking phones. How the fuck she saw Violet walk in at... I look to my watch to see the damned time ... eight fifty, when her office is just in front of mine is above me.

I log out of the confidential online paperwork I was working on, more like rereading for the last two hours, readying myself for Violet to barge in the door as she always does.

She works Monday to Friday three weeks out of the month, so I know I'll have a break tomorrow... with her daughter... my supposed niece... the one I have a crush on... Yeah, I'm fucked, and it's only getting worse.

"Breakfast, courtesy of Starbucks," Violet shakes the bag in her right hand as she waltzes toward me, placing two cups of coffee in a coffee holder.

"Black and sweet," she sings, passing me my coffee whilst taking her own skinny almond milk sugar-free caramel latte. Yeah, I know that's a mouthful and a half for a fucking coffee.

It never changes, just like her.

She hasn't aged a day, and I can safely say she looks exactly how she did the day I met her, except she could probably beat me in a round of boxing, considering she works out more than I do currently.

"Thanks, you're making me fat..." she laughs, pulling out the chair before sitting down straight-backed and happy.

"No, Daniel, the endless amount of takeaways and sitting home alone is making you fat. You need a life partner, someone to kick you up the arse. All this time alone isn't good for you."

"And how the hell do you know I'm home alone?" She shrugs, blushing into her cup as she sips to mask the fact she let slip she's having me followed.

"Stop it... I don't need protecting, Vi."
