"Father, I do not wish to marry yet." The young prince explained, his father seated before him.
"There is no other way, you must take my thrown and to continue our legacy, a woman must carry your child."
"You must have a son and in what other way than without a woman?" His mother chimed in.
"I'm only 16 marriage seems like to much now! Shouldn't I be allowed to chose who I love."
"Nathaniel. You are to be married by 17 that is in 4 months, you may find a wife at the gala we are hosting. Or we will find one for you."
"But father-"
"I have been more than generous. I'm done speaking of this."
"Yes father." His voice weak and defeated he began to walk to his corridor.
Now at the entrance of his bedroom he sighed and pushed the heavy doors in. As he looked up he saw Marc Anciel standing at his bed making sure everything was in place. The glow from the windows plastered a beautiful light on his already angelic features.
A soft smile began to cover Nathaniel's face.
"Hello you grace." Marc said in his usual formal tone as he turned to face to doors. He saw it was the prince and he instantaneously became for comfortable in his speaking however still keeping some level of acerbity. Nathaniel walked over and and collapsed into his arms. The two had become close friends ever since Marc was sent to work for the Kurtzeburg family 3 years prior. He had been assigned as Nathaniel's servant but the prince was quite independent and they had just become friends.
Despite the formality given to the outside view on the pair, they knew everything about each other. Well almost everything. Homosexuality was frowned upon in their home. It was seen as going against nature, Marc presumed Nathaniel shared the same beliefs so he had never told him about his sexuality. Or his feelings towards the prince due to his power over him.
"My parents told me that they were going to find a wife for me if I'm not to find one by the end of the gala." Nathaniel explained the previous conversation he had with his parents as he often did. The prince fell on the bed dragging Marc with him, they were just facing the celling a good distance between them. Marc was a good listener but this particular conversation hurt him deeply.
"Do not worry your grace, I'm sure you'll find a perfect wife to carry on your family legacy." He faked the enthusiasm in his voice. Nathaniel sighed.
"That's what my father said, and I've told you you don't have to call me that. It seems to fancy." He relegated slight chuckle and Marc lightly blushed with the comfort he showed him.
"Nathaniel, what are you looking for in a wife?"
The prince sat up and looked at Marc.
'You' was all his brain could muster but he forced out a reasonable response.
"I'm not sure, as long as they care about me and listen to my weird little vents. And they don't belittle me for my art, what more would I need- heh, ya know." Nathaniel blushed knowing every thing he said related to Marc, and he made sure to say them because it wasn't a woman he wanted.
"That's understandable, your a very good person. She will be a very lucky woman."
"Well I don't know." Nathaniel said with a melancholy present in the room.
"Have you made anything new?" Marc asked hoping to change the subject.
"Ah yes! Come come." He beckoned as the other obliged.
As he brought him to the observatory of the building where he would usually paint as it was a good source of inspiration.
"Here it is." He brought Marc over to the large canvas and blushed so deeply it was clearly visible.
"I-It's me!?" The painting was a very clear portrait of Marc, every feature was perfectly done.
"You did that from memory?"
"Yes?" Nathaniel was now blushing as well.
"It's beautiful, you are an incredible artist."
"Thank you Marc!"
"Your grace!" Another servant was in the door way.
"It is 7 o'clock sir." She said.
"Ah already?" Nathaniel said now frantic.
"I need to go, I'll see you soon Marc." He set of running down the candle lit halls.
"Ahh Marc." She said stoping him as he began to exit the glass room.
"Yes Rose?" He turned to the maid.
"So what was this painting of?" She asked.
"O-OH umm nothing important just a portrait!"
"Hmmmm really?"
"Yes. Are you implying that I would lie?" He said now hurting down the halls. Rose was the only one who was aware that he was a homosexual, because she was to. They had grown close due to that fact."About time you arrived." Nathaniel's father said. As the prince took his seat at the table.
"My apologies father."
"We have informed multiple kingdoms with princesses your age that are attending this Sunday that you were indeed looking for a wife, there will be a plentiful verity of women to pick from."
Nathaniel sighed, he didn't want a woman. He wanted Marc.
"Sire. Your pheasant." The cook presented the family with their dinner and dismissed himself.
A silence was cast over the room as they each individually ate their supper.Marc returned to the staff wing of the castle and seated himself on his bed and took out his jurnal, writing yet another love note to Nathaniel. He had written many that he promised himself the prince could never see. He wrote until near ungodly hours of the night as he often would.
