Chapter 1

I look in the mirror, seeing myself. I didn't even recognize myself. After the events, I'm different.

Weeks Before

I put some pins on my bag, smiling. I fix up the smiley pin to be straight. I put my bag on my back, and I started walking out of my room, but then I remembered something. I went to hide my diary, but it was gone. I start to worry, but quickly calm down. "It's alright. I'll deal with it later." I say. I ran down the stairs seeing my mother cooking eggs and breakfast.

"Sorry Mum! I'll Be late!" I yell. "Can't eat! Seeya!"

"Come back, it's 2 hours before school starts!" She says. I completely ignored her, running out the door and mounting my bike. I quickly ride down the hill we live on. I stop and I look at my house from afar. I smile, then keep riding. I ride down an odd alleyway. I get down to a small koi pond, and sit down near the rocks. The koi pond is surrounded by the tall city. Sounds are muffled by the sounds of the water moving. I sit down and get some bread out of my bag. I sneaked some bread in my bag the day before, I'm surprised it hasn't gotten all over the bottom of my bag. I tear off a little bit of bread and throw it into the water. An orange and red koi fish comes up to the surface to come eat the bread. It's beautiful. I've always loved koi fish, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the way they dance in the water? Maybe it's their beautiful bright colours. I smile. It's nice to finally get away from all of the city. It may be small, but it's nice. I hear someone walking behind me and I stuff the bread back into my bag and quickly stand up.

"Hi.. Sorry, am I interrupting something?" Says the boy.

"Oh no, I'm just admiring the koi." I reply, putting my bag onto my back.

"I see. They are beautiful aren't they? I used to have a koi pond, then we moved here. I come here most of the time. Just to get away from it all." The boy sweetly smiles at me. I smile back at him. He's a little like me.

"Alright, I better get going, I have school." I start walking out of the alley.

"Okay. I hope to see you again sometime." He says. I think that's a bit weird, seeing as we've only just met. I nod, and exit the alleyway. I walk down the street, heading towards my highschool. My high school is very very big, because there are so many people there. More than 900 kids. It's really easy to get lost there. So I leave little trails. Painted blue rocks lead to my classroom. Somehow, they haven't been stolen. Only one has been. The rest are well

hidden, but I can see them well. Oh yes! I must introduce myself. I'm Kora, I'm 17 years old, and a little petite girl. Everyone else in my year, towers over me. I look like I'm 9, but I'm not, I promise. Anyway, I'm nearly in my classroom, and I slowly open the door. I'm the only one there.

"Kora! You're here early aren't you." Says Mr Derwent. I nod and sit down at my desk.

"It's half an hour before class starts. I thought you normally go to your pond for hours before school starts?" He says.

"Yeah.. But today there was someone there." I say, getting out my sketchbook.

Mr Derwent nods.

"What are you drawing?" Mr Derwent says, interested. I look up at him, expecting him to actually know.

"The koi and the boy I saw this morning near the pond." I say, staring at him. He nods again, and walks off to do other things other than talk to me. I begin to sketch out the large details of the koi fish, and get other drawing materials out. As I add more and more details to the artwork, more and more hours go by. I end up drifting to sleep.

4 Hours Later.

I slowly open my eyes, still at my desk. A small fluffy white blanket was laid over me. I look around, looking for someone. I see someone next to me, asleep as well. He looked about my age, with black hair, and a small birthmark near his eye. I tap him lightly on the back before I realise he was actually the boy from the pond. He looks up at me with his bright blue eyes, and I smile slightly. Was I blushing and I didn't know it? Did someone draw on my face while I was asleep? Am I embarrassing myself? He smiles back at me sweetly. I sigh in relief. I got my hand on my sketchbook and saw that the pencils I was using smudged the drawing of the koi fish and the boy. The boy looks over at my sketchbook.

"Is that me?" He smiles and asks. I'm definitely blushing now.

"Maybe.. But I only really draw when I see something I like." I say, not fully realising what I said. "Wait wait, sorry hold on that came out wrong. Something that interests me? No no.. wait sorry..-" I struggle to think of words. He sits and smiles at me sweetly. That is one of the sweetest smiles I've seen. I stare into his eyes, mesmerised.

"Are you.. Feeling okay? Do you need anything?" He asks, slightly concerned, but still smiling.

"I want yo- yoghurt. I'm gonna go get yoghurt. Do you want to come?" I ask. He nods and smiles at me again with the same sweet smile. I smile back at him, And start walking out towards the door. I almost stumble when I go to grab the door handle, he holds my hand so I don't fall. "Thank you." I say looking at him. He opens the door for me slowly, and I walk out to get to the cafeteria. I walk through the large door leading into the cafeteria, and then I walk up to the lunch ladies.

"Can I get.. A yoghurt please?" I ask the lunch lady serving me. She simply just looks at me.

"We aint doing yoghourt today. It's pudding and rice today." She says unenthusiastically. I stare at her, but then I walk away, slightly disappointed. I thought it was tuesday? Normally they have yoghurt on tuesday.

"Well I guess they don't have yoghurt. Do you want anything else or are you alright?" He asks, looking at me. I shake my head. It's almost the end of the day. I need to get home before my mum calls me in a hurry.

"I need to head home, it's quite late and I dont really want to be yelled at by my dad." I exclaim, starting to run off with my bag on my back.

"See you.. Tomorrow?" The boy asks. I yell out yes to him, and run away.
