This is it. This is the final stepping stone left to pursue my future.
I wipe my hands on my black cardigan before opening the glass doors to 'Glitz Magazine'. I had my camera bag slung over one shoulder and my hands in my pockets as I walk up the front counter.
"Glitz Magazine, how may I collect your call?" the blonde woman at the desk spoke into the phone.
To be completely honest, I am excited to work for 'Glitz Magazine', not only are they one of the biggest gossip magazines in all of U.K but I feel closer to finally getting to work for 'Ivory Magazine'. 'Ivory' isn't based on celebrity gossip like 'Glitz' is, 'Ivory's' main focus is on travelling and art, both of which I have and great interest in.
I'm actually really lucky I am the niece of the editor in chief here at 'Glitz'. When 'Ivory' told me I needed experience I just felt like screaming "Do you know who I am?" in their face. I know they knew who I am. Ariella Raven, daughter of Bryan Raven, founder of Raven Inc. Any sane person in journalism would know who my father is. He owns most of the popular magazines, newspapers and online forums in not only the U.K, but the whole world. Sadly, he didn't own 'Ivory', which means I couldn't get a job there as easily as I could get a job at 'Glitz'.
"Ma'am?" the receptionist broke me from my thoughts.
I blink a few times to get back to the real world. "I'm here to see, Mr. Raven please. I'm writing the next article on celebrity gos-,"
"He is waiting for you just through that door," she rudely interrupts, pointing at a door to my left.
I roll my eyes and walk towards the door before knocking. I hear a muffled "Come in" and walk through the door to see my uncle sitting at his desk with a large manuscript in his hands.
"Uncle Josh!" I say with a big grin on my face. It's been way too long since I had last seen him. He still looks the same though. Short scruffy hair, long stubble on his chin and surrounding his lips, a clean cut suit and a manuscript in his hands while he has his glasses balancing on the tip if his nose.
He looks up from his manuscript and a smile stretches along his face. He takes off his glasses and puts down his manuscript before striding up to me and wrapping his arms tightly around me in a hug. Uncle Josh never had kids and I was his only niece so I was the closest thing to daughter figure he had ever gotten.
"Look at you, you are so big!" he says and takes a step back to look at me. "You look just like your mother."
My smile only grows at his comment. I love how my family has reached the stage where we can mention my mother without getting all sad and mopey.
"Thank you so much." I say and begin to look at him. "Is that a grey hair?" I tease and scruff up the hair at the top of his head.
He rolls his eyes playfully and walks back to his seat. He waves his hand toward the chair in front of his desk, gesturing for me to sit. I adjust my camera straps position on my shoulder before happily obliging.
"So, your father tells me that you are here to get experience to begin working at Ivory, is this correct?" I nod. "Good," he smiles before opening a drawer and pulling out a bunch of papers. "I phoned 'Ivory' when I got the call from your father to request what 'experience' you needed," he paused to look a yellow sticky note on the top of the stack of paper. "You simply just have to write an article on a celebrity of my choice for next month's issue." He says with a smile.
"Sick," I say and run my finger through my hair. I have never been more excited for anything in my life. This was it. This was the final move before reaching my dream.
He stands up and hands me the papers he took from his drawer before. "These are the four celebrities which are being written about next issue," he shows me the papers one by one.
"First, we have the main male character of the Grammy award winning movie 'Havoc', Niall Horan." There is a picture of a tall handsome blonde wearing a red flannelette shirt paper clipped on the page. "This article is being written by one of your co-workers, Alice." He continues.
"This next one is of the owner of 'KC enterprises', Mr. Burke.", "Then we have famous author and director John Green, I'm sure you've heard of him." I nod.
"Last but not least we have Harry Styles, his album 'Over the Sun' was number one in 30 different countries for over a month, this one you will be writing." He says and takes the rest of the papers from me. There was also a photo of him paper clipped to the cover. He has a brown mop of curls placed perfectly around his head, he has a black t-shirt tightly fit around his muscles and black ray bans sitting on his nose. He has a huge grin spread across his face and a dimple on either side of it.
Harry Styles is one fine piece of ass.
I clear my throat. "Easy peasy."
"That's the spirit! Now, I will call Vicky over to show you to your new office." He says and walks back over to behind his desk.
I almost choke on my own spit. "I get my own office?" My eyes widen in disbelief.
"Well we may as well get you adjusted to what it would be like when you work in Ivory." He says excitedly.
"Thank you so much Uncle Josh," I walk over to him and hug him again.
"You deserve the best from this world, Ariella." He squeezes my shoulders before picking up his phone and calling Vicky. Once he is done he hangs up and turns back towards me. "I want you to research Harry Styles for the rest of the day, go complete fan girl. Try not to fall in love with him." He winks.
"Thank you again. I won't let you down." I smile as Vicky, the same receptionist from before enters.

My office absolutely amazing. It has a bright blue on the two walls on either side of my desk, which is in the middle of the room facing the door, and behind my desk is a gigantic mirror that takes up the entire wall. My desk already had a picture of me in my graduation gown with both my parents, put there by my uncle.
Next to my office door was a metal board with my name engraved into it. This office was very fancy. There was a large box in the corner of the room with my name written on it, I decide to dig into that first.
Inside of the box is a corkboard, thumbtacks, ribbon, empty folders in all colours, blu-tack and a letter at the bottom of the box.
The letter reads:
Ariella,
This is a little something to get you started at your new job. I know how organised you like to be. Your older brother and I are very proud of you as you can imagine and I am positive if your mother were here she would be too.
You are so close to reaching Ivory, all you need to do I work as hard as you have since high school and before you know it, you'll be there.
Miss you more the words can say
- Father
I wipe a tear forming in my eyes and start to take all of the objects from the box and placing them where they belong around my office.
Once I have finished and my office looks like mine I walk over to the laptop on the desk to begin my research.
