We all had gotten the fire put out and were eating sitting on a curb in a circle together as Gage came running back with the news.
"KB..." Gage said, "He died three hours ago after you left. There was nothing that they could do."
I looked at Roy and got up wanting to be alone as I walked away to the engine soot and dirt, grime all over my face. I climbed onto the engine and sat on the top my face in my hands as I cryed. I hadn't cryed over someone in years since I joined up. Not even when my first boyfriend Officer Drew Burke died, I think it was more I couldn't than I didn't.
"Can I join you KB?" Roy asked when I was sitting on the concrete in front of it crying.
"S-Sure." I said when he tried to smile and I smiled back a little. My crying became sobs as Roy's warmth surrounded me and I leaned into him sobbing into his button down shirt.
