I gulped slightly as I paced down the ever-so-familiar road. I wouldn't back out now. I promised myself I wouldn't. I reached his doorstep. I paced back and forth in front of his house. I finally gained the guts to walk up the stairs. It wasn't like Max was a bad guy or anything... I just felt like I needed a break. Everything has been going wrong lately. We just aren't working. I think he may have realized that too, because he didn't seem very surprised when I broke up with him on that sunny Saturday morning.

After a small chat, I left. I reminisced about the past and all of our memories together as I walked down the same street I did every day for 2 whole years. I began to question myself. Did I do the right thing? Memories circle through my head.

~7/13/21~ Max had invited me to join his family on a summer trip to Hawaii. I was a little nervous because I had never met his parents before. His mother was extremely kind, and I enjoyed being in her company. I also got to meet his father. He was intelligent and well-mannered just like Max. Max also had two younger sisters. Angelica and Rose. They were only about 7 years old at the time, but they looked up to me like I was an idol.

~12/24/21~ "MAX- I'M GOING TO FALL!" I yelled. Max glided past me laughing. It was the time he took me ice skating. I felt like I was close to death's door that day, but hearing Max laugh made it worth it. Max is a serious type of guy, so it was like seeing a different side of him.

I laughed remembering the fun times we had. A wave of sadness and regret hit me like a lightning bolt. I reassured myself that what I did was right. It was sort of like a right person wrong time sort of thing. I reached my house and decided to call my mom for advice. I had always kept a strong relationship with my mother after my parents split up. She was always there for me, and I was always there for her. She picked up right on the first ring. "Aria dear, you haven't called in a while... is everything alright?" she said gently. I replied, "Hi mom, everything is alright I guess..." "You guess?" "What does that mean?" she worriedly questioned. "Mom... I ended things with Max." I heard my mom gasp loudly. I should have expected this.

I told my mom everything I was feeling. She listened all the way through. We agreed that what I did was right. Max is a businessman. Soon enough he's going to have to take over his father's company. He isn't going to want some girl who won't be of any help alongside him. I knew it was kind of selfish that I only did this because of the "What if's". My mother told me I needed a break from California. She told me I should go on a trip to the other side of the world and meet a nice man there. I can't completely argue with her. To be honest that doesn't sound terrible. But the thing I'm running from isn't exactly Max.
It's love.
