As she walked through the long big corridors of the Arena, holding her mask, which was as white as her outfit, with her left hand to her face, it hit her again. This was all real and it was happening right now. She was pleased. And although she would probably never admit it to the outside world, she was also a little bit nervous. How could you not. Nervous about what was to come, about this adventure that could not be compared to anything she had experienced before, and yet she had such an incredible calm inside her that gave her exactly the strength and energy she needed. When she found out that she had been chosen to represent her country in the ESC 2022, she had no idea what to expect.
She had not expected to win. But she did.
So far it has been much less stressful than she had ever imagined. Actually everything that had happened since had been a lot of fun. And also, she was not alone. Her colleagues, her friends were with her. She turned to look at the man dressed completely in black walking next to her. "Do we have to go to the right?"
He nodded. She walked on, to the right, through a door. And there it was. The main hall as big as a football stadium. The ceiling so full of lights you couldn't have counted them. And in front of her the stage with the kinetic Sun, which, however, would not be as operational as first announced. But she didn't let something like that get her down. The show must go on, after all, and whatever would happen, she would go on....
"Ana?" A nervous voice snapped her out of her thoughts. It was customary here to address everyone by their first name. She tore her eyes off the stage to look at where the voice came from. Although she had seen the stage before, it was impressive every time. Something you would most certainly never get used to.
"Yes?"
A staff member stood in front of her. A lanky boy who seemed to be just 18. He seemed insanely nervous and looked past her instead of directly into her eyes as he spoke to her. As if he was honestly scared she would turn into Medusa and petrify him with her gaze.
"Um Miss, could you please sit down in the chair?" He stopped and swallowed. He really was afraid. It amused her a little. For some reason, her calm sometimes even cold aura seemed very intimidating to many people. And secretly she sometimes even liked to play with that. She was incredibly intelligent and smart even with a few words she could often checkmate others.
The slightly trembling boy backed away, his voice now so soft it was barely more than a breath of air.
"Because... We'd have to start rehearsing. Please. They told me to call you."
She just nodded, smiled at the boy and sat down on the chair that was part of her performance. In front of her was a table with a bowl full of water and soap.
Her hair fell pitch black and straight over her shoulders and her red lipstick and piercing blue eyes made her look almost like she came straight out of the fairytale Snow White. She immediately got into position, put her legs up, once again adjusted her collar and the flowers in her breast pocket and spread her arms. Next to her knelt one of her choristers. Her face a complete poker face, staring into the distant. Even a mind reader would probably not be able to figure out what was going on inside her.
"When she sits there like that I'm almost scared of her. She looks like a queen. I don't know what it is about her." Whispered a co-worker to his neighbour. But she did not hear. She sat quietly and waited. The big light went out, a spotlight on her and someone called out.
"In corpore sano - Konstrakta. And go!"
