All eyes turned to Marcus waiting his answer. It seems like he had no idea either by the way he just stood there looking around in my apartment. I followed his eye movements, trying to figure out what he is looking for.
Finalizing his search, he moves towards my white stacked bookshelf filled with alphabetically shelved books and hanging plants. He runs his hands on my plants slightly pausing at each one, caressing it. He then shifts to my books looking thoroughly through the H section of my shelf.
"Marcus, what are you doing here" I said trying to get him back on track.
"I am looking for a book in your shelf, where is it Kya?" He replied without looking back at me.
"Which one would that be, Marcus?" I responded coyly, now understanding what he was looking.
Sensing my tone he straightens up and turns around looking at me crossly. He walks up to me and peers down at me lowering his head slightly.
"Where is it Kya?" He repeated slowly, making sure I understand.
"Do you want me to look for it sir?" Keagan stated taking steps forward, but Marcus stopped him his hand.
"Did you throw it away Kya" Marcus questioned in a slightly confused tone.
Sensing that he was being serious I finally responded " No I didn't I still have it, let me get it".
I held his stare and touch his cheek to reassure him which he responds with a nod.
I turn around and start heading to my room to retrieve it. Looking on top of my nightstand I find H.E.R by Pierre Alex Jeanty, which is a poetry book focusing on the strength of women. I was gifted it by a young Marcus as a sign of peace in midst of chaos and terror.
Flashback
Beep Beep Beep
I blinked my dry eyes opened and stared at the blurry white light ceiling and blue tinted lights.
"Where am I." I thought to myself starting to panic, I try to move but my body screamed at me to lay my ass back.
The pain was unbearable, it felt like my body had glass on each crack of my skin. However, that wasn't the most painful part of it. My chest hurt like a Shaq big ass super jumped on my chest. My vision blurred immensely because of the pain.
"Ky'a!" Someone yelled while laying their hand on my shoulder. The pain made me squirm and scream.
"Ky'A stop it is me" The voice was stern, but it did not sound familiar in my head, so I tried to get away from it, which resulted in the pain intensifying.
"Ami, go get the nurses, she is in pain" the same voice called out with dispare lingering in their voice, while keeping a hand on my shoulder. It comforted me, but it brought me the most pain.
"Got it.. Nurse!" the voice responded, fading away with footsteps.
Slowly a brown blurb moved into my line of vision, and my heart rate spikes.
"Okay, just breathe princess, breathe" The blurb cood to me in a deep soft voice. Princess?
Only Marcus calls me that, after that hit me I started to cry. This was all to much for me. Not only did not having a clue where I was and my lack of vision, I was scared and needed comfort.
"Marcus what is going on, why can't I see?! Where am I?" I sobbed out. The only response was his shushing and wiping of my tears.
I tried to clear my vision, but nothing changed, and it frustrated me to my core. It was like something snapped in me and I was no longer sad, I was pissed.
