00:28. Past midnight.
Three months after the events of RE6.It was a cold night which somehow signified a few more like this coming ahead in the future... The events of Edonia and China left Chris grieving over the death of his comrades, especially Piers who taught him how to deal with loss. In the worst possible way... He repeatedly blamed himself for all the deaths that occurred under his watch and felt like a complete failure. A complete fraud.. Yet, he was awarded for his undying bravery in every mission he took part in until now. Chris took a vacation of two months later on and returned a month later, assuming the position of the Captain once again.
On this night, he was a bit pre-occupied completing the report based on his recent mission in Russia when Jill opened the door to his office room.
"Chris? What are you still doing here? You should be at home taking some rest. The mission you just came back from was a really tiring one." Jill said with a caring tone, while fixing her slightly messy ponytail.
"I know... I just don't know who I'm supposed to go home to anymore. Ever since she died... I've been working a few extra shifts. In order to avoid leaving for home and finding no one there.. So, I'll just stay here." Chris sighed and continued writing with his pen.
Jill always knew he was a stubborn man but also knew that she was the only one who could get that stubbornness under control. With an angry look on her face, she stormed into his cabin, grabbed the pen from his hand and threw it onto the ground.
"Listen to me right now! I don't want to hear any more excuses from you! You WILL go home RIGHT NOW and you WILL sleep for at least eight hours! Do I make myself clear, mister Redfield?!" She felt bad for raising her voice at him, but there was no other way she could get that into his head. This wasn't the first time she needed to scream at him though.
Chris was left astonished with almost nothing to say to his partner. But, to be honest, he always did like making her a little angry. "...Alright, fine. I'll go." He sighed heavily, getting up from the chair he sat on and coming closer to her. "You screaming at me seems to work. I need that, so I do stuff on purpose to get you annoyed."
Jill's eyes widened and she raised an eyebrow. "Really, Chris, really?! Why, you little--"
Before she could complete her sentence, the muscular man hugged her gently, laying his hands on her back. Jill didn't know what to say. She felt weird.. And it wasn't the bad kind. She felt like she got what she wished for since months. But.. "Was this man about to confess about his feelings for me or is this just a friendly hug?" That thought kept her mind occupied.
To be continued..
