The pair finally made it back to the castle. They silently walked inside and towards the kitchen. Faint voices of his fathers and others singing 'The Defeat of Mor'du' song in the throne room were heard. Blair couldn't help but chuckle at their singing. "They're horrible, aren't they?" she asked the prince teasingly.
Medius nodded, laughing quietly. "Oh yes. They can't ever hit a high note." the young prince glanced around, noticing the kitchen was empty, just like he hoped for. "I'm going to give this to mum." he whispered as he began preparing a tea tray. He placed the cake perfectly on the tray, just as his mother always liked.
"Are you sure Mer?" Blair asked for the thousandth time. She didn't want him to end up making a huge mistake. The young boy nodded his head to reassure as he picked up the tray and turned towards the door. But the door was yanked open by his mother unexpectedly.
"Meridus! Blair!" Elinor breathed in a sigh of relief at the sight of the pair. They were always together and the queen had hoped they still were.
Meridus didn't expect his mother to be here so suddenly. "Mom! oh...uh....I...um.." he stuttered, not have preparing anything to say before hand.
The queen rushed to him, checking for any sign of injury. She then turned to do the same to Blair. "I've been so worried." she said softly. "Oh Blair-" she turned to the blonde headed girl. "I am so sorry for what I said. I didn't mean a word." she apologized.
Blair hung her head, shyly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I-It's okay, my lady. You were angry." she knew the queen was just spitting out nonsense before but the words just broke her heart.
Elinor noticed the pairs dirty and torn attire in worry. "I didn't know where you'd gone or when you'd be back! I didn't know what to think. Oh, look at your clothes!"
"Angus got startled and threw us." Meridus revealed. "But we're not hurt." he quickly added, trying to not further worry his mother. He might be angry at her but he still loved and cared for her.
Elinor smiled at her son. "Well, you're home now. So that's the end if it." her voice was gentle and calm, such a difference from a few hours ago.
"Honestly?" the young prince asked as his face lit up with hope. Did she finally call off the marriage while he was gone? But his hope vanished when she mentioned she pacified the lords and his father was distracting them. Blair noticed he was upset once again, gently taking his free hand into hers for comfort.
"Of course, we both know there's a decision still to be made." the queen sighed, turning towards the door. But Merid stopped her, holding out the cake on the tray.
"Oh wait! I made this for you, it's a peace offering." he said, offering it to her. Of course his mother still cared about the marriage, so hopefully this spell changes her stubborn mind.
Elinor took the plate and raised her eyebrow, impressed. "You made this for me?" Meridus nodded, watching as she picked up the cake and took a bite. She chewed for a moment to savor the delicious treat. "Mmm. this is delicious."
Blair nervously fiddled with the sleeve of her dress, waiting in anticipation for what's about to possibly happen. "Do you uh... fell any different?" she asked curiously and worriedly.
The queen glanced at the girl and then towards her son, licking the crumbs from her lips. "Tart, and um...gamy!" she stated and placed her hand against her mouth. She placed the plate back down on the counter, feeling a bit sick.
Meridus watched his mother, hope reappearing. "Have you changed your mind at all about the marriage?" he asked expectantly. Blair gently elbowed his side, making him realize how sick his mother looked.
