Silence fills the room and people begin departing the living area, retiring to their rooms for the night. Darkness soon submerges the house as everyone turns out their lights, but not Hermoine.
Freshly changed into pajamas, she makes her back way down to the once active room, walking through it to the kitchen. Reaching up to the cabinet above the fridge, she finds the alcohol to be gone, with only about a shot left in one bottle of firewhiskey.
Groaning, she reaches on her tippy-toes and grabs the bottle- unscrewing the cap and drinking the rest of its contents. Feeling unsatisfied with not even a buzz to keep her warm, she turns back to the living room and picks up space on the couch.
With her back to the arm of it, she hikes her knees up to her chest and grabs a book from the spruce table to her right.
It's one she'd read many times, a classic for her- Beauty and the Beast. She'd always loved it when her mother and father read it to her before bed, acting out the parts of Belle and The Beast. Hermione's heart pangs as she opens it and brings it to her face.
Pulling it in close, she breathes in the smell of the pages. It smells like fresh pages and hints of lavender, wood, and basil- it smells like her home.
Before the battle had started, Hermione had gotten a tattoo on her hip bone during her school days. It's tilted sideways, growing towards her pelvis- a simple line art rose with the quote "the spell can be broken" under, there to remind her of her parents and a lesson they'd taught her about a quote from the book.
'But the rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose. If he could learn to love another and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time'
They told her that even when someone makes a mistake and pays for it, it does not make them a beast forever, does not make them a monster- it makes them human. It was the only reason they didn't like the book, and it's been something Hermione lived by.
After some time, the book began to feel heavy in her arms, and her eyes, dry. She quickly felt herself drift off before she could make her way back up to her room.

The front door slamming open woke her up. Shooting up from her slumped spot, the book slid off her and hit the floor, drawing the attention of whoever barged in. Finally, on her feet, she pulled her wand from the waistband of her trousers and casts a Lumos to see their face. Stood in front of her with squinting eyes was Malfoy.
She sighed and whispered Nox before walking over and turning on the lights above. Draco squinted and threw his arm up to shield his eyes from the bright light.
"Bloody hell Granger, turn it off," He hissed. She obliged, setting the room back into darkness. Her eyes began adjusting and she could see he moved closer to her, swaying as he did.
"Are you drunk Malfoy?" She asked, backing away from him slightly. He was close enough now that she could smell his breath and feel a warm wave of his body heat ripple off of him.
"Wow, good job. The brightest witch of her age figured it out," He drawled sarcastically, causing Hermione to roll her eyes.
"I guess I know where all the alcohol went then," She sighed, moving past him to grab her blanket, but a hand on her arm stopped her before she could wrap her hands around the soft material.
"Didn't know you drank Granger," He teased, leaning in close, smirking at her "If you want a taste, I would be happy to oblige,"
"Not a chance Malfoy, and of course I drink, I'm not a prude," She shot back, ripping her arm out of his grasp. He looked at her, trailing his gaze down her face before moving past her and laying down on the couch with a groan, passing out almost immediately. She thought about leaving him there, but he was on top of her blanket.
