Everything was perfect. I mean, except for the fact that Elliott and I were cancer patients in and out of the hospital on a constant basis, everything was almost perfect.
El's outlandish personality made me strive to be more outgoing and become a match worthy for him. He had always referred to me as the strong silent type, despite my best efforts to tell him that wasn't me at all.
"Ken, you're just introverted. Cancer does that to a lot of people, but I'm not going to let you keep all of your madness to yourself. I want to expose you!" Elliott said one day, as we watched the rain from my hospital room window.
"El, you sound ridiculous. Please don't 'expose' me. I mean... there's nothing to expose either way," I replied with an eye roll.
"That's where you're wrong. You and I both know you're a little crazy nut inside that head of yours. I mean, why else would you agree to date me. I'm going to make sure you leave your mark on this world and to do that, I'm going to have to break into that shell of yours and expose your nuttiness!" Elliott said exasperatedly.
Oh god, here we go. The thing with Elliott that I learned to love was his determination. He would continuously form goals and once he had his eye on something, he wouldn't rest. His new project was me. I wasn't sure if I was happy about this or whether I should be nervous and hide in a corner.
"I'm not nutty," I said calmly.
"Right! As if, Kenny. You're as nutty as they come. Your wit and sarcasm is low key, but I catch all your jokes and quirks and I think the world should know just how adorably dorky you are!" Elliott exclaimed.
"You just called me a dork, El. What a great boyfriend you are!"
"You still love me sweetums, don't you?" Elliott laughed.
"Good God, Elliott, you're the dork! As corny as ever!" I said while ruffling his hair.
Elliott caught my hand and placed it near his chest. "You're making me nervous, Kenny, you gotta warn a guy before you go touching him!"
"I just ruffled your hair, stud," I said sarcastically.
"Not that! You! You're everything I've ever dreamed of and more!" He said while ruffling my hair.
"You're going to make my wig fall off, El!" I said with a sigh, "And thanks, Captain Corny. You're not too bad yourself."
Elliott frowned and regarded me with disdain. "Kennedy Cross, I just don't think you get it. I'm not trying to be the sweet and loving and perfect boyfriend you think I am, I'm giving you some 'real talk' okay? You're a born star! Start acting like it and spread the joy that you give me to others as well, because with just one dazzling smile, Kenny, you make me go crazy. If I wasn't stuck in this chair, I'd probably jump on you any chance I got!" He laughed.
I felt heat rush to my cheeks. El and I had never exactly gone as far as kissing and I thought that was all that was on his mind. I mean I thought about the big stuff too, but his company was more than enough. After hearing the things that went on in his head, I couldn't help wonder if anything like that could ever happen. I mean, he wasn't exactly paralyzed, but he wasn't in the best shape either. Plus, we were under constant supervision. It was next to impossible.
"El..." I started before he cut me off.
"Ken, I don't just want to have sex with you. I want to show you how much I care. I don't need to have sex with you to do that, but I have other ways of doing so, if you just open up and let me," He said with a soft smile.
My blush deepened, "Okay. From here on out El, I will put my complete trust and faith in you. So what's it going to be first?"
"We're a team right?" Elliott asked.
